Canadians really try hard to believe that because we're basically empty we're somehow clean and pristeen. Per capita we are one of the worst glutons and polluters in the develloped world. Well first of all CO2 is not a pollutant. I am really tired of this global warming clap-trap taking much needed attention away from POLLUTION. Especially air and water pollutants. What? Do you even read what you type? Of course the people of kazakhstan evenmtually came from Africa, as did all peoples in the world. I am referrign abck to where Natives and Caucasians broke apart and that was in what is now Kazakhstan. We are all immigrants.

I watched the PBS series on the Taliban when it was first broadcast. It basically said that the Taliban hide and receive support in Pakistan. We have asked and NATO has asked that Pakistan do something about it. They don't. PBS's report shows that. Only the Afghans will really be able to come up with a solution. It isn't up to Canada to ensure their security in perpetuity. In fact, the two year commitment on the frontlines is straining Canada to the core. Canada should be pissed at the U.S. who think that Afghanistan is worth 25% less funding than Bosnia. We should be pissed at NATO who don't commit enough troops or support. Why get pissed at me? I kept saying that Afghanistan was going to be a problem because it is bigger than just one country. It is about Pakistan and it is about the rest of the world not being fully committed. At some point, we are going to have to come off the frontlines. Will the rest of the world be up to the challenge? Will Afghanistan? Afghanistan is now our number 1 recipient of security and aid. We are committing more and more to the fight and yet the progress has turned backwards in terms of southern security. And that didn't come from me but the British defence ministry last month. So go get pissed at the U.S. or the corruption and tribalism in government in Afghanistan. Or get pissed at NATO. Why is Canada at the sharp end of the stick for two years straight? What is our ultimate exit strategy win or lose? Is Harper setting things up for more than two years of conflict? How will he sustain that? What happens if our forces are required elsewhere? Is no one asking these questions? Of course people are asking these questions. It is a war, you expect there to be no 'problems'? How delightfully nieve of you. There are, of course, issues and they are trying to address them. No reason to want to cut and run though and no reason to not look at the good that our girls and guys are doing even with these problems. Afghanistan is much better off than it was 5 years ago and the facts back this up.

Yet Mr. Harper favours the inclusion of religion in hate crimes legislation so he has no problem with hate crimes legislation per se. But he opposes it when it specifically pertains to gays and lesbians. Some might view that as evidence of hard-line conservatism but perhaps they're wrong. Maybe he just voted that way because he's a religious extremist and not because he's a conservative. Or maybe he voted that way because he's a homophobe and not because he's a conservative. For some reason Mr. Harper felt compelled to make Darrel Reid Chief of Staff to Rona Ambrose. Ambrose is neither a social conservative nor a religious extremist. Darrel Reid is. He also ran and lost as a Conservative candidate in January, 2006. He formerly headed Canada's Focus on the Family. He compared Canada to Nazi Germany when the Liberals, BQ and NDP voted to add sexual orientation to hate crimes legislation. What does Focus on the Family have to do with the environment? In 2005, Focus on the Family issued a statement saying that global warming is an "environmental theory yet to be adequately established." So perhaps it's just a coincidence that Mr. Harper appointed someone who thinks like him to be Chief of Staff to Rona Ambrose. So is Mr. Harper a hard-line conservative? To paraphrase Bill Clinton, it depends on how you define "hard-line". Norman, personal question - are you gay? Do you think Harper hates you because you are gay?

Banks don't make money from the money they print, they make money from the difference in the interest rates they pay out to savers and the rate they charge to lenders. They cannot just simply keep printing money and that's it. True...but banks make huge sums from: 1)Service charges to schmucks like us 2) fees earned through merchant banking services to listed companies.....like when a company launches an IPO....the fees in these cases can be in the millions..... You bet, I was trying to dumb it down
