Only half of us got it as it was sent in Chinese. You've got to set your receiver to English dude. Turn the knob all the way to the left. There you go...
-
Oooh that rhymed. How...nice If they took your use of the English language as a hint I think most people could have guessed your age fairly accurately.
-
We are actually telepathic. Yes, it's true. I'm sending out a message to my fellow Canadians right at this moment.
-
I always assumed that Canada was a different country from mine, they'd have their own language anyway. Canadian english is closer to actual English english than American english is. But other than a few differences of spelling (colour not color!) and pronounication it's basically the same. I find it funny how some Americans come here to visit (I live in one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Canada. I see them enough to know) expecting things to be totally different and when they aren't really they seem disappointed. Or when they try to impress us poor Canadians. I've had conversations with tourists that what along the lines of: 'Excuse me, do you have so and so here in Canada?' 'Yes we do too. It's right over there' 'Ohh... I see. Well do you have blah blah blah?' 'Yes doesn't everyone?' 'Ummm...err I can't read this. It's in French. Here you read it!' 'I don't know French. Most people here don't. Flip the damn thing over'

Well first of all note I'm not talking in general terms. I think many people forget how huge Canada is. We are the second largest country in the world yet they act like we are all the same. I've come across many Americas (of course many are different) that try to fake a stereotypical type Canadian accent while saying things like 'It's frigging cold innit, eh?' yet try to joke around with them and they lecture you on how different each part of America is (yet their country is smaller...odd). I find it quite hipocritial. Ever heard a Nuffie accent? Now that's funny.

This is such a minor point I can't believe I am bothering to make it, but "y'all" is not an "American type [thing]". I mean, it isn't said by anyone but Americans, but it is only said by some Americans (i.e., those who live in the southeast corner of the US). You'd be really hard pressed to find anyone west of Texas or north of Kentucky who uses it. Yes of course. Though I have come across tourists from the northwest states (Oregon and Washington) who said ya'all. One time this lady (from Oregon) asked me at a gas station 'Ya'all using the bathroom?' Nobody was with me so naturally I was thinking she whacked. She looked quite confused when I looked behind me. Maybe she was never taught the difference between singular and plural. But I've been told that's pretty common. If some) Americans (everyone I’ve met so far) feel they have the right to joke around and say 'EH!' every time they meet a Canadian then we should have the same right to make fun of American sayings. It's only fair... eh?! It’s just funny how some Americans are. Visiting with my bf’s family (who’s from Washington) his dad insists that I can’t be cold because “she’s from the great white north!” Hello, I’m only an hour and a half across the water. The weather is basically the same. In fact it’s usually a few degrees warmer where I live. Or when, at a party (good times!), his cousin, uncle and neighbor all crowded around me asking if I say ‘aboot’. And I’m like ‘no I say ABOUT. However we don’t lengthen it out it like ‘abouuuuuutt’ in Canada' They all thought that was quite cute. Well eh…

Should Canada Bend Over/Stand Up to America?
Nyx replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
What Americans? The American people in general or American gun smugglers? You are far too vague there buddy. Nobody is BLAMING the American people. That's just stupid. But you'd think officials would be paying more attention to the issue at the border (on BOTH sides). I mean are Americans the only ones who have the right to be concerned about their security? No. I live in a place where 10 years ago there would be maybe one or 2 shootings a year. Now it's like 2 a week. And usually done by people with handguns. And I'm sure you know those are illegal here. And a large majority of the gun violence in places like Vancouver comes from gangs that moved to Canada. Usually Asian. The victims are usually gang members, innocent bystanders who got in caught in the cross fire, people who tried to break up fights (between gang members), and drive by shootings. Every so often some crazy Canadian walks into some institution and shoots up the place (like at Dawson College). -
Should Canada Bend Over/Stand Up to America?

Yes, Mayor Miller. You get our pot and we get your guns. Hardly seems fair. I mean how often has someone died from smoking a joint? Never. How often do people die from shootings? Quite often. Seems like there's a new one on the news every week. -
I thought most speak Canadian. We might have our little sayings (which many of us don't use anyway) and we don't say American type things like "ya'all" but it's essentially the same. The English language.

Time to hide the wife and daughter? (jk). What language did you conduct your dates in? No I don't swing THAT way. But if you've got a cute son at least 23 years old then hey hey! haha jk What language? You know that the majority of Canadians speak English right. Perhaps you thought most of us speak French. We don't.

Should Canada Bend Over/Stand Up to America?
Nyx replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Bend over? Well we voted for gay marriage. Sorry I couldn't resist. There are definitely some issues we should stand up to the US on. Like softwood lumber and illegal gun trade. -
The American people are cool in general. Except often a bit slow. lol jk No, I like Americans (I've dated a few). I just don't like their government and many of it's policies. If they had a better government then I don't think so many people would have a distaste with the US.

Canadians insult America (again)
Nyx replied to America1's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Yes, I read the article Then how in the world did you miss the part where it said "The poll suggests that 77 per cent of Quebecers polled primarily blame American foreign policy for the Sept. 11 attacks. The results suggest 57 per cent in Ontario hold a similar view." Now where does it mention British Columbians, Albertans, Saskatchewanites, Manatobians, Newfoundlanders, New Brunswickers, Nova Scotians, PE Islanders, Yukonites, Northwest Territorians, and Nunavutians? That's over half of the population of Canada. So what, are the rest of us not Canadians? So why did the poll fail to interview the rest of us? Then to say that 'Canadians' (making you believe they mean ALL of us) think that way. That hardly seems fair. Also notice where it say they blame American foreign policy. It doesn't say they blame AMERICA or AMERICANS. No, it only mentions AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY. I don't know why that is so hard for some people to differentiate. Some Canadians say that your governments foreign policy is flawed (which is is) and possibly led to 9/11 and then you have to whine 'Oh the Canadians hate us! It's because they want to be us! Oh woo is us!' Umm no. We like ourselves and our country quite well thank you very much. But the topic is foreign policy, not what Canadians personally think about America or Americans. But some Americans do seem to love getting them mixed up. And then they wonder why so many people around the world don't like their attitudes... Geeesh. This was OBVIOUSLY a very bad headline. You have to learn to take the media with a grain of salt.
