  1. August 1991. I don't pretend to be the ONLY interpreter of the Bible. I merely pointed out the FACT abortion is not regarded as murder in the Bible. That is not an interpretation. An embarassing and awkward fact for many semi-literate Christians I admit, but that is not MY fault. For me, I could not care less. I mentioned the Bible because there are millions of voters who DO believe in the scribblings of some bronze age nomads. I am not one of them.
  2. In fact, contrary to what many Christians believe, the Bible does NOT consider abortion murder. The only reference to a 'woman losing her fruit' specifically points out a fine or punishment that is much less than killing a person. Don't get mad at me, I am old indeed but not old enough to have written the original book/s. • In Ex. 21:22-25, God tells us what to do if a man who is brawling knocks against a pregnant woman. If the woman dies, the principle of "life for life" is invoked and the man responsible for her death must be killed. If she lives but has a miscarriage, then the death of the fetus is to be compensated for by the payment of a fine, as demanded by the woman’s husband. Thus the bible is not equating abortion with murder. So all the Bible thumpers can leave by the side doors.
  3. Why would we care what Layton and the NDP think? The NDP (thank goodness) will never form a government and probably never even get a meaningful 'loyal opposition' status. Layton is a jackass and in any sane society would be gainfully employed polishing fire hydrants.
  4. There is no good time to die. Better to be like me, and stay a young and beautiful sexy senior citizen.
  5. Canada will not become part of the U.S.A in the forseeable future. First, their system of Republicans vs. Democrats is extremely well balanced and stable (too stable some say). Thus the addition of 31,000,000 Canadians would tend to give the Democrats a huge voting bloc to add to their constituency. Naturally the Republicans etc., will make sure this will never happen. Nobody wants to rock the boat this way. Next, by leaving our famous 'undefended border', in place, the U.S.A can point to the world and boast of their peaceful, non threatening ways. So Canada's independence is in the U.S.A's interest in world political circles, or at least on the streets of other countries around the world. Last, they own us anyway. The U.S.A would be bothered and put out if they closed their borders for a week. Canada would be on its knees if the U.S.A if this happened. We owe our standard of living and security to them and their military machine. IMHO this explains a lot of the endemic anti-Americanism because nobody likes to admit their status in the REAL world. So Canada will continue to stand 'proud and free' (tee hee!)
  6. The problem with this forum is that most posters are informed and reasonably knowledgeable even in cases where I don't agree with their conclusions. So I just find myself reading, with nothing to add.
  7. Sorry fellow traveller. Most young people I meet have been well and truly brainwashed into thinking we are a nation of peace KEEPERS, (not peace MAKERS). Add to that Canada's influential La Belle Province. It once had a proud tradition in the 'Van Doos' etc., but now in the finest of Pierre Elliot's left wing appeasement tratidion, most of Quebec seems to view doing anything violent to be abhorrent. Although I am an unashamed small 'C' conservative, I believe that Harpers stance on Afghanistan will be his downfall. On the other hand I predicted a Martin victory, so what do I know?
  8. You keep saying 'Jack thinks', or 'Layton thinks'. Since he is an NDP'er, this is just not so. They don't think, they just mouth off old shop worn near Marxist claptrap from the Dirty Thirties.
