Kenney Attends Controversial Rally
Ricki Bobbi replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Liberals incoherence on this issue is the problem. Depends which MP or leadership candidate you listen to. Advocating for Hezbollah will definitely be seen as abandoning the Jewish community. Only time will tell, but it seems like wishful thinking how long this issue will dog Kenney. *If* the opposition could focus on the issue you could be right. It would take a level of leadership, discipline and co-ordination that hasn't been seen on the part of the opposition since the election. -
Where are you seeing these criticisms? Aren't the CTV and Global just asking for a level playing field? One set of rules to apply to all? Is there something wrong with the rules being the same for everybody?

Consevatives versus More Conservatives
Ricki Bobbi replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Anders is a plague on the party. He was muzzled in the last election for a reason. Expect the same in the coming election. The progressive wing, i.e. Jim Prentice supporters, of the party is growing. Harper realizes that it has to in order for the party become a viable, long-term, alternative to the Liberals. Anders voted against giving Nelson Mandela honorary Canadian citizenship?!! wtf is up with that? His private reason for doing it was because he wanted to make a point about the Liberals not following proper parliamentary procedure in putting forth the motion for honorary citizenship. I guess being politically tone-deaf is better than opposing Mandela with some ridiculous argument about him being a terrorist. -
Kenney Attends Controversial Rally

MTV = MontrealTorontoVancouver. That was the *hip* term for where the Liberal support had shrunk to after the election. Granted, Vancouver's isn't as big as in the other two cities. But it is still influential... -
What are you saying? Seriously, I don't get your point at all. Has anybody here actually complained about ownership restrictions and mail subsidies being used to advance an agenda? I *know* I haven't made that argument anywhere here. A little support for statements like that would be nice.

Kenney Attends Controversial Rally
Ricki Bobbi replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's easy to write off the lost support in the Jewish community for the Liberals as *inevitable* but not very shrewd politically. If the loss of support trickles down there could be some MTV seats that are all of a sudden in play for the Conservatives when they weren't last January. This thing with Kenney is truly a tempest in a teapot. Here is a quick test of why. Had you heard of Hezbollah before the Liberal mini-crisis over the issue? Had you heard of the National Council of Resistance of Iran before this story came up? -
Consevatives versus More Conservatives
Ricki Bobbi replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I guess it depends who you consider the *party* to be. He's definitely no favourite of Harper's and the Nelson Mandela incident only helps to prove why. Anders can't really grasp the big picture and gets himself (and the party) in a lot of trouble as a result. The party isn't protecting anybody, and you are right, if they did Anders would be close to the bottom of the list. (After garth of course....) -
Why would members of the first element you mention be uncomfortable in the Conservative Party? The Conservatives have a lot of libertarians, i.e. non-social conservatives. Why would members of the second element be uncomfortable in the NDP? Doesn't seem like there would be much to gain from either element forming their own party when an established alternative exists.

They definitely did get called on the promise, but it was about as easily as the Post could have gone on them. At least the National Post isn't getting huge sums of public money to advance their agenda .... *cough* *cough*. What national news outlet am I thinking of?

Harper flubs the Israeli/Lebanon crisis.
Ricki Bobbi replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
To be fair, I believe he has started threads about his hatred for the CPC in general! -
Consevatives versus More Conservatives

Fair enough. Unless people are willing to go to a primary system (pardon the term *US Style*) than it likely won't be made public. Really does suck Anders won't be challenged though... -
130km of Lebanese coastline affected by oil slick

We get the point gerry you hate Harper. Let's keep to one anti-Harper thread per subject please. -
Harper flubs the Israeli/Lebanon crisis.
Ricki Bobbi replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The statement was made before the oil accident and most of the damage to the infrastructure in Lebanon. Oh by the way gerry any proof how this is going to hurt Harper? Do you really hate him more than you did before this last war? Those who hate the man will always hate him. What if Harper would have taken the pro-Hezbollah stance, in spite of the illegality of the group? Would you have supported him then? I didn't think so -
Consevatives versus More Conservatives

Interesting stuff. Can't see party HQ going out of their way to protect either Anders or Grewal. Maybe these challengers didn't meet the membership or deposit requirements. Won't really know til they speak up. -
It is a provincial responsibility. The only way the Feds have power in the area is if the provinces and territories insist on taking Federal money for health care. Which they all do...

CBC Caught Misreporting Harper Statement
Ricki Bobbi replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Because politics is the art of the practical. Much better to let the CBC slowly wither to second-rate PBS status (if you don't believe that's where it is already....) No electoral risk in that one. -
CBC Caught Misreporting Harper Statement
Ricki Bobbi replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Government won't have to make drastic cuts. Once the CBC loses Hockey Night in Canada drastic cuts will have to be made. The Conservatives will be on very strong ground politically if they simply refuse to replace the revenue lost from Mother Corp's biggest cash cow. Yet another example of the market serving the greater good of Canadians. -
Privatize Canada Post?
Ricki Bobbi replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
While a pretty fair suggestion it is completely impractical. There are still a large number, possibly a majority?, of Canadians who receive home delivery. No party would be willing to risk angering all those voters. -
While that would be a dream for the other parties the Liberals are far too smart for that. Besides the PCs broke up because the hard right had no where else to go so they formed the Reform. A disgruntled Liberal can move left or right to a major party if they no longer feel comfortable with Canada's natural greedy party...

CBC Caught Misreporting Harper Statement
Ricki Bobbi replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Going back to the topic of the thread, the CBC has officially expressed their *regret* for the way the story was reported. Good work keeping them, somewhat, honest! http://www.stephentaylor.ca/archives/000653.html -
Hmmm, not everything the Conservatives do is to curry favour with GW. That vote linked to a couple posts ago tends to ahow your bias. Believe it or not it is possible to agree with somebody on an isue without being in their back pocket. Unless you have a source for that line it just comes across as knee-jerk Harper bashing by trying to connect him to GW. What do the Harper-haters out there have to say about Bill Clinton being opposed to de-criminalization?

Privatize Canada Post?
Ricki Bobbi replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Great idea. It would require some sort of guarantee of mail delivery in remote areas, but it definitely could be done. It would take a Conservative majority to do it though. -

Here is a stock answer you would/should get from 99% of MPs offices if you wrote such a letter (and they took the time to write back to you). btw do any of the major parties officially sponsor a message board? Dear Margrace, I thank you for taking the time to send me your concerns. It is always nice to hear from my constituents. My office is in no way connected with FD or MLW. Please feel free to contact my office with any concerns regarding Federal issues. Sincerely, Random parliamentarian, MP-Riding name. -
Shakey's attempts to be witty and subtly put other posters *in their place*. Nothing to really worry about.
