Ontario Seeks "More Diverse" Prayer
Rue replied to kengs333's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
And you never cease to amaze me how you accuse other people of the very thing you do, Aboriginal peoples and their nations and their collective faith clearly preceded and were established in Canada and have always been part of Canada as much as you would like to deny them or ignire them. Your comments are also completely ignorant of the fact that we have laws that make it clear our laws and governments and government services are no more Christian then they are anything else, so that they are accessible and neutral for all and for that matter so that people like you can not have their way and act intolerantly and discriminatorily against those you do not agree with in the name of your alleged religious beliefs. Before you adapt an arrogant tone with anyone take a good look in the mirror. The brown shirt and black boots are unoriginal. -
Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian
Rue replied to kuzadd's topic in Religion & Politics
Great Pretender was a hit song wasn't it? No I think the only point the "Great Pretender" was making is that if we engage in such terms we try make them universal in application since technically governments serve all people and so should remain neutral with expressions of faith-its not the expression of faith that is in question-just words that might exclude certain citizens. Imagine if we replaced all references to Christ in your prayers to the name Lindsay Lohan. Would you feel comfortable with that? Of course not. ( I would because I am convinced she is the Messiah...er at least this week) Its just a matter of finding language all can feel comfortable with. I myself like the word CREATOR instead of "God" and for agnostics and atheists, we can add the words "Human collective". Of course the above may be considered too politically appropriate so I say replace all references to the almighty with Lindsay Lohan on a trial basis for one year. She has nice freckles and she means well. It will give her a reason to stay sobre too. -
Lol Buffy reminds me of Tokyo Rose from World War Two or ehr subsequent reincarnations in Korea or Vietnam. Problem is when you try make someone out to be a villain you have to make sure you are credible to start with. Its like those politicians who call everyone else immoral then gets caught with their pants down in a public bathroom tapping their feet or sleeping with some strange looking woman for $80,000. There's an old Yiddish expression, "make sure you are chaste before you cry slut..." which translated in West Coast vernacular means" before you stone someone, make sure you aint stoned".

Tim Horton's would have to count as a cultural icon and Canadian tradition Jester. I mean that and enjoying curling, CFL football, Jr. A hockey, drinking rye and not scotch, and thinking moose are cute and a beaver may be hairy but is in fact a rodent.

Bingo JB. I promise you the same people who claim Canada has a culture and traditions we should all buy into will not define them clearly. The same people that rant about us not conforming to a collective set of values have no clue what it is they want to conform to. Sometimes it will be stated as personal subjective values of the writer that reflect simply his own other times it will refer to some meaningless tradition-but the point is Canadian identity is an ever-evolving one and all of us old or new, evolve as the world changes. Of course some of us are frightened of change and things that appear different then what we grew up with so there is a tendency to curl up and resist change and try resist it. Lol. I promise you, you will not get anything but fragmented subjective feelings in response to the above based on the perception of the person responding. The more threatened they feel, the more likely they will share their own identity as the one they want you to conform to. One thing about us humans is, we are predictable apes. We are no different then baboons or chimpanzees or guerillas in how we establish customs in our packs. Its all based on some chattering alpha male with the most inflammed butt whether its a baboon or human.

1.Your remark that celebrating murder and terror is normal is necessarily predicated on you believing terrorism and murder is normal; 2, In my world people who feel terror and muder and killing innocent civilians is normal and celebrating such behaviour is normal-are abnormal; 3.Your comment that the IDF deliberately targets civilians is made with no objective basis to establish it as a fact-you have no basis for that conclusion-it is in fact a baseless subjective assumption; 4.Your comment that Israel is not serious about peace is also a baseless subjective assumption; 5.It is absurd for you to presume you know what all Israelis think or feel about peace-when you made the assumotion as you did you in fact assigned a negative characteristic to all Israelis-your intent was to smeer all Israelis as evil warmongers. I will say to you what I say to Buffy. People like you come out of the woodwork to exploit tragedy and suffering for a political agenda. Now Buffy you want to talk double standard-read your own words. You stay silent as to the fact that it is Hamas' actions that expose its civilians to death. You always remain silent to that fact. I will say this but once. It is wrong Palestinian civilians die. Wrong. Its horrible. They die because Hamas chooses them to die. Hamas has the power to put down its missiles and arms and engage in peaceful talks. Instead it chooses terrorism and violence and by so doing holds all its people hostage to its continued decision to engage in terror and violence. This is about one thing and one thing only-terrorists who choose to use their own people as hostages and place them in harm's way so they can die and their deaths can be manipulated to portray Israel as evil for defenbding itself against terror attacks. The military expert Buffy and the above genius oh they know. The IDF sits around deliberately planning to kill civilians. They sit there and say-hey today let's kill innocent Palestinian civilians. That makes sense. That will solve our problems. We will kill them. What an idiot thing to suggest. What makes it even discpicable is that you Buffy are well aware what Hamas' charter is. You are well aware who is targetting civilians deliberately and who does so in response because Hamas puts them in harm's way. You Buffy continue to be a shrill because you were not there. You do not understand Hamas and never will. You have no idea what they think and feel but you think you do. The above genius though unlike you, oh he knows. He knows what this is about. This is about not stopping until all of Jordan, Israel and south Lebanon becomes part of a Muslim theocracy run by Hamas. The Israelis are for your consumption Buffy. They make you feel all good about yourself. You have it all figured out. Its black its white. Its Jews its Muslims that's all it is. It was never about Jews. Its about men-fundamentalists-violent men who despise their fellow Muslims, Palestinians, Jordanians, Christians, Jews, gays, women, Bahaiis, Hindus, Buddists, trade unionists, moderates, on and on it goes. This is not about Palestinians. It never was. If it was about Palestinians there would be a nation next door to Israel whose people lived peacefully and formed an economic union with Israel,Jordan nd Lebanon. It was never about that. Ever. This genius above who wants everyone to blame Israel and ignore Hamas and try justify terror and hatred as normal, you can have him Buffy. If you are so convinced he is the romantic tragedy figure you should intercourse with, oh be my guest. Can't wait to see the children of your shared vision on Dr. Phil. I would have said Jerry Springer but we all know he is Jewish.

Problem is Moxie the scum bag response is lazy. It states the obvious. We all know someone who commits a crime should not get away with it. That is not the issue. The issue is whether someone can be rehabilitated or not and whether because someone is younger you might have a chance to get to them and put them back on the right path before its too late. It's lazy to generalize and write all criminals off using the word scum . Nice and black and white and simplistic. You are either bad or good, the problem is in the real world it is not that simple and many people who commit crime do so not because they are scum bags but because they became prostitutes or drug addicts and they become that way not because they started off as scum-they came into the world no different then you or I. What turned them into scum was not moral failure which people who use labels like scum bag do to justify hating them-some of us don't have the luxury to iknee jerk react and see the world as blck and white-we live in the grey-we live in the world where what looks like refuse to you, cries out to us with pain. I have worked with crack whores who started off as beautiful children. They end up that way because their fathers raped them then they run onto the streets where some pimp snatches them up and uses drugs and sex to fuck their minds. Not sure you would be so quick to call them scum if you saw a 12 year old whore after his/her pimp beat her or him silly or someone sodomized him or her and threw him or her in an ally to bleed and wonder if they have aids. Not all drug addicts are scum. They started off as people and then the drugs lowers them into hell slowly. You want to judge them-go ahead-me-honestly I feel only humility and sadness. I don't hate them or feel superior to them. That could be me I am looking at under the right circumstances. The ones that are genuinely scum, oh I know them-you get to the point you feel them in the next room coming-I would never let them dominate my head and write off all others based on what they are. That is exactly what they want and I'll be damned if I indulge them. So no with due respect not all scum are scum-some of those scum are people in pain and if they still can feel the pain-there is always hope. Its the ones who can't feel pain anymore, those are the ones we have to ask tough hard questions about. If you do not want to deal with them fine. Many people do not. They don't want them in their neighbourhoods. They don't want to think about prisons and the criminal system. I understand that. I am not asking anybody to. But I am asking you to realize some of those scum still feel-they still can cry-they still can dream. They still if given the right programs can make it. What may be garbage to you could be someone who still has potential and could go on to help turn other garbage into something meaningful. It is not a matter of being a bleeding heart. I have seen cops tougher then anyone on this forum after many years on the job, still reach into cess pools and pull people out. If they can do it and they do, then those of you that do not have to should try remember that-if for no other reason because the cops on the street, the social workers, the nurses, the mental health workers-they still do their jobs and should not be ridiculed for what they do and if they get 1 from 1000 back from hell, its worth it. I am not saying we should endanger anyone to do that either. I am not saying we should release pedophiles or rapists onto the streets thinking we are rehabilitating them. That is another issue-appropriate sentencing-and its not the issue I am talking about. I am just talking about not being quick to write people off. The other stuff, i.e., inappropriate sentencing, that is another complex issue.

Man that is a tough question. Generally speaking the law is supposed to be flexible with children to determine if they know right from wrong when determining whether to rely on their evidence in court. Not a terribly scientific process. When it comes to crime, as youmay know, to prove a crime you must establish mens rea, that is to say, intent to commit the crime. We came up as you know with a Youth Offender's Act that was supposed to distunguish the punishment and criminal laws we dispense to children from adults but then what happens is children are not all at the same level. Physically you can now have fully matured bodies but people under the age of 16. I.q. and emotional maturity levels differ greatly. Generally speaking when a child begins puberty the frontal lobe explodes insize from a dot to a large watermelon. As it explodes in size judgement, reasoning, inhibitions, emotional impulse, ability to perceive danger, all becomes suspect, because all of that is governed by the front lobe which becomes unstable as it grows. While that is happening there are also other complex hormonal and other chemical changes going on that effect mood. Its possible you can have 3 14 year olds and one is a child who has not yet reached puberty, one in puberty, and one having completed it. Each would probably manifest diferent behaviour patterns. Some children at a very young age already have severe mental pathologies, i.e., are sociopathic or psychopathic-they have no feelings, no inhibitions and kill or maim and feel nothing-there is no emotion and what you think is remorse is simply them manipulating you with false emotional reaction. They might regret getting caught but not much else. So I can't really answer your question other then to say to you ideally we have to take each child one at a time to determine their physical and mental and emotional states. I just am not sure how you go about applying a proper test to determine if they are adults or not. Severity of crime in itself may not tell you. On the other hand, severity of crime may very well tell you. We believe a child or young adult still has time to change and be rehabilitated and so want to emphasize rehabilitation with them. I wonder sometimes today when we see street gangs committing mayhem whether these individual gang bangers can be rehabilitated or whether its too late. You get opinions on both sides of the coin on that one. The real hard one is what about child soldiers or child terrorists? This one prisoner in Guantanamo Omar Kadr was 15 at the time he was captured after killing a US soldier. Was he a terrorist or was he a child soldier? Did he know what he was doing or because he was 15 and brought up by his father to hate, he never had a chance to exercise free will? I just can't give you an answer. I know children that could kill you and feel nothing, others that would kill you and find it quite funny, and others who would cry like little children after getting caught. Me personally I don't think child prostitutes should be sent to jail and we need to rehab. them. Likewise child drug addicts. On the other hand, when I see a child who at 14, 15, 16, has already knifed and mugged and raped people and has established a clear pattern of crime, I just do not think for them rehab. is realistic. So me personally I tend to look and ask what are the nature of the crimes and whether the child has a history of crime or it was just a one time thing. Was it done in self-defence? For example did the child knife his father because his father had been beating him or his mother? I think the law tries to ask those kinds of questions and take that kind of thing into context but many believe the Youth Offender Act has miserably failed. I just don't know what the alternative can be at this point.

Listen don't play the fool with my heritage. You know nothing about me. My people's suffering is there. Its a fact. But I was never brought up to believe it gave me the right to hate anyone or think I was better then anyone. I don't use my heritage to hate others or blame them for my own problems. If I fuck up, its my fault, period. Speak for yourself. You do not speak for me or my people who did not survive by playing the fool or victim. More to the point I grew up the only Jew in an Irish neighbourhood. If you think I went around singing Danny Boy to survive you are an idiot. Which brings us back to the real topic, King Friedman and the Texas Jewboys and their hit song Drop Kick me Jesus through the Goalposts of Hell. Now that was a great song and again proves my point you can fuse country with rock and blues and get some good stuff even when you are Jewish in Texas.
-
He probably means record manager. He's despate for someone to buy his tune. Now getting back to the real topic, Ry Cooder or Ray Buchanan-y'all have to get some of their music to appreciate fusion of blues/rock and country. When it does come together it makes a guitar cry. On the other hand Chauchee's version of the blues reminds me of someone with hemmeroids. Oy. Oy. Oy. The lyrics are redundant. Someone give him an ice cube to sit on.

I think that is the point Dancer, but I also appreciate the concerns say Buffy restated that such things should be debated and explained clearly. I am not sure how much of this is not discussed because our governments don't want us to know just how inept and disorganized they now are and how much of it is something sinister. I suspect the former not the latter, but I can see how the lack of public discussion fuels conspiracy theories and anxiety in some. I personally believe most conspiracies come about because people can't imagine governments as being inefficient and inept, and when they f..ck up, and then try cover up their mistakes, people create conspiracy theories to make it seem as if the government deliberately planned what happened and now hide it because the other alternative-the fact it just may be the government having screwed up, scares people and so these conspriacy theories once again perpetuate the myth of powerful governments in control and who can't possibly be full of idiots f..cking up. The fact is, our governments' ability to manage wide spread catastrophes and emergencies is very limited and I wonder-just what would happen if the government told the blunt truth and explained their weakness using the terms you mentioned to then explain why they need to incorporate each other's logistics...I think it would cause many people to panic.
-
1. The need to create this binding document probably was not legally necessary. You raise a valid point of criticism. 2. The lack of debate is another valid point of criticism. After the above announcement we are now talking about, about two weeks later, it was also announced there will be a Canda-US-Mexico joint military exercise. That one sort of just slipped through the media as well.

What % of non-whites are assimilated into Canadian culture?
Rue replied to iForgot's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
In response to Leafless; "I don't believe in official multiculturalism for the simple reason it requires the intervention of state control which leads to oppression and discrimination of other groups." I think the above statement is a fair one. There are many examples of the above. Obviously where I would differ from you is that I believe a multi-cultural policy can be implemented but one that does not require state intervention. I agree trying to use a state to get people to respect one another will not work and probably does the exact opposite. " IOW- The more equality the more government control....absolute equality means absolute government control." Again your criticism or cynicism can be defended as many governments in the name of equality have simply used it as a pretense to impose state control over individuality. Certainly both facist and communist regimes have demonstrated that and religious theocracies. However I again would argue it is possible to have a working legal definition of equality that doesn't try impose a vision of equality but simply refers to laws being applied consistently to all people. Its not a matter of people being equal. None of us are. Some of us are fatter or shorter, etc. Its a matter of trying to assure all citizens can expect the law to be applied consistently and not differently depending on your amount of money or political beliefs. "Briefly if I were prime minister everyone in Canada would be expected to be unconditionally Canadian first and be expected to conform to the majority culture and traditions of the land." Again I agree with you but to an extent. I do not think you can have a nation exist unless all its citizens unconditionally put Canada first and a specific set of collective values first. I agree with you if the multi-cultural policy serves to tell people they can pick and choose what laws they will follow that is bullshit. "There would be no 'Charter of Rights and Freedoms in the hands of the federal government and our original 'Bill of Rights would be reinstated and turned over to individual provinces to allow them full control relating to those specific rights. " I am sure English Quebecers would have something to say to you about the above as well as aboriginals and for that matter your dear friends, French Canadians outside Quebec in other Canadian provinces. You want a Canada first vision it won't happen having 10 provinces each fragmenting the Canadian identity-all it will do is encourage disunity and regional disparity. "The addition of rights would be allowed but only utilizing a democratic process such as a referendum with a basic predetermined percentage." The above comes right out of the Parti Quebecois manifesto. I knew it. "Leafless" is actually Jacques Parizeau! " The undemocratic selling out the country to the counter productive political whims of minorities constitutes traitorism in my book." So given the above comment, anyone listening to you and trying to implement what you say or acknowledge it is a traitor to Canada. Interesting. See you in political prison. -
Everyone of your posts starts with a victim reference to yourself. Bonnie Raitt sings country and blues and mixes them. She plays a mean slow guitar. The musician blood comes from her father and who she hung with as a child many of them blues negroes as you call them. Since you claim to be in the library go get some Roy Orbison or Hank Snow. Nothing to do with chauvenism and everything to do about common men talking about maintaining their dignity-something that clearly from the sounds of your constant woe is me posts you might benefit from. Its not about chauvenism. Its simply about men who do not walk around with their testes sucked up their nasal cavity whining about being victims-you mix up country with your tune which sounds more and more like Boy George everytime you write.
-
Great story. I will think of it whenever I think of Bonnie Raitt's Kalamazoos.

Lol. Robbie Robertson I love. Of course he's one half my people, one half aboriginal! Hah. Ironic you chose him. love Derek Miller. You know my all time fave was Roy Orbison. As close to hearing God's voice as anyone will know. Ry Cooder and Ray Buchanan I liked too. Listen a Jamaican I know turned me onto Mr.Cash. Insisted I sit down and listen to the lyrics and appreciate he wrote everything and how everyo line has a story. This fool thinks he's doing Ira Hayes. Hah. No one does it like Mr. Cash. His words are amazing. Great writer. Today's country though for me is a tad too commercial. I like when country fuses with the blues. Nothing better its why I like Roberston so much. or Blue Rodeo or Bonnie Raitt. Patsy Kline is still great with a dry beer. Has to be a dry beer though.

The Tonto routine is tiresome. You sound more and more like some bored private school snot writing in his free period.
-
Not original. Politicians, Proctologists, people at job interviews, anyone who works, we all do it . I suspect though he lives in Forest Hill or Rosedale and has had a maid do it for him and now he is panickin because high school might be coming to an end and his bubble is about to burst. Everyone on Degrassi Jr. High has to leave. Hey the big dork at least came back as a teacher on the second series. This one I suspect though will go to Trinity College, Queen's or Western, drink himself silly for 4 years, wake up one morning and realize he's fat not just ugly and become a financial analyst. Very predictable. This Washington Redskin, Chicago Blackhawk, Cleveland Indian, Atlanta Braves routine is as brilliant as the first time around with Tonto. All this Kemo Sabee bullshit is tiresome.

You wake up tomorrow and you're the Prime Minister: Fix Canada

1. Invite gary Bettman to Ottawa for a Senators game and have him arrested and placed in prison and tortured. 2. Arrest Celine Dion, Paul Anka and Anne Murray and place them in prison. 3. Use my office to convince Angela Jolie to come up and visit and then get her drunk on ice wine and have a torrid affair in the Chateau Laurier. I would also invite Avril Lavigne and Melissa Auf Der Maur. Now that I am PM I am on a roll. 4. I would have Mats Sundin deported. 5. I would round up every one who has ever asked me for spare change in Toronto and appoint them ambassadors to places with warm climates. 6. I would end all trade with China and use all their goods still in Canada to build ski hills in Southern Saskatchewan and in PEI. 7. I would appoint Stompin Tom Connors as Governor General and send him on a good will tour. 8. I would change the Maple Leaf on the flag to a moose. 9. I would change the national animal from beaver to Canada lynx- (so people can still say our national emblem has female genitilia undertones but we can stop referring to ourselves as big rats) 10. Anyone with light skin must learn to dance. 11. anyone with dark skin must learn the sport of curling. 12. Anyone with a name that can't be pronounced will change it to Shapiro. 13. The Montreal bagel will be recognized as an icon of Canadian culture and instead of giving people medals when we give them the order of Canada we will give them a dozen Montreal bagels. Finally; 14.we will give myself and my friends money in paper bags. -
Nearly 3 million Americans in Jail
Rue replied to trex's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You can actually find out the above by going to Stats Can which keeps statistics on crime in detail. I am not sure about the $83,000 per year. Sounds a bit high. Anyways, the point is the vast majority of people in Canadian jails are aboriginal put per ratio, young black men. Now here is an interesting stat. The vast majority of people being arrested and sentenced for crime, by far are black men, and much higher then any other group of people. What appears to be happening is when a black man is arrested (and the stats show huge differences in arrest rates) they are less likely to have sufficient money to fight their charges so they accept a minor sentence for time they have already served waiting for their trial rather then staying in jail for months and years later trying to fight the charge. They are more likely to have served time while waiting because they are more likely not to be able to afford bail. What we also know is the vast majority of aboriginals in prison are arrested for vagrancy and being drunk but contrary to popular belief are not arrested for violent crimes. So who is the typical person in jail. Well the stats show its the same here as it is in the United States-a male, unemployed with a drug or drinking problem and/or mental illness. That is the vast majority of people in prison. are people convicted of minor offences. It is not a prison full of the people we think it is. The rapists, the murderers, the big time drug pushers, the pedophiles, the extremely violent criminals are not remaining in prison even if they are convicted because they are more likely to fight their charges and get off on a technicality or constitutional arguement. Both countries have a huge back-log of trials, too few prisons and have deliberate policies to early release violent criminals and sex offenders because of lack of prison space. I think what you are going to see in the next ten years is a push to alternative technology to prison, namely more improved bracelette systems to track people. There are several large firms already working on implants that can be placed under the skin to track convicts and others working on technology to be implanted in the brain to act like a pacifier to control the sex urges or anger of certain offenders. Its actually scary what is being researched and what methods society may end up using to control the movement of convicts. Why? Because the same technology of course we have no problems using or want to use on violent offenders could also be used on innocent people for political reasons. I can tell you this. The average person convicted gets under 5 years even for a repeat offence and for every day served automatically is given one day off, then is given another day off for every say served if while in prison they are not charged with anything. They only serve a third of their actual sentence and most times also subtracted from that is time already served and more often then not, their sentences are served concurrently not seperately if they are convicted of more then l offence. Drunken driving also kills more then gang wars. -

I pinched one on the buttox once. He was just so damn polite I could not resist. My wife almost killed me. I thought it was funny. So did the other guy he was with. Well he started. I said, thanks but I am one of Moses' people bye bye now. But he could not resist and asked me if I would turn the other cheek to violence or would engage in eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth. So I said well let me demonstrate and pinched him good. I said I was just seeing if you would turn the other cheek. I think I got him sexually excited too. I have that effect on missionaries.

Lol. I like it. Find it a very kind, peaceful way of approaching things. Taoism too. Found them very helpful in helping me reconcile my disgust and anger over certain issues. But then its like everything right AW? There is good and bad in all things. Don't get me wrong. I am far from someone in the position to judge others.
