  1. Govt policy, why else are interest rates so bloody low? Nobody benefits from it because in the long term it affects everyone. People have a choice to save their money or wallow in debt buying crap. Save the sob story.
  2. And it wouldn't be so without the govt interfering in the market with policies encouraging consumption rather than production, and fooling around with interest rates, and not providing mandatory financial education in the ciriculum.
  3. Joe average had a job, but his spending habits didn't reflect his income. Why else is the average north American buried in debt? Do people really need 2 flat screens in a house, that vacation every year, a new car, a giant house? And your guys contempt for the 1% will keep you in the poor house, have fun!
  4. Here's the thing, china pegging it's currency actually is subsidizing American consumption off the backs of Chinese workers. If the Chinese currency were allowed to rise, the USA would be faced with a currency shock and commodities would explode. Also with a higher Chinese currency that would allow the Chinese workers to become instantly richer and they would be consuming more products. I think it's going to rise because I don't think they can keep a lid on a boiling pot. However in the short term if the Chinese currency rose, the USA dollar would tank and the party would be over for a lot of people. This is greed and entitlement of pretty much all of north American society coming back to bite us. Human kind cannot function in a system with free money, it destroys incentive to produce and in the end everyone is worse off than before, it's been tried and failed over and over again. Why academics beat this dead horse is beyond me. The only winners with china depegging it's currency is the communist party of china. They are subsidizing production of manufactured goods made in china with a low currency and at the same time have managed to subsidize the USA consumer by buying all the USA debt and keeping borrowing rates low, plus get to enjoy timely interest rate payments when the bonds mature. If there was any kind of an ingenious racket in human history, this is it. They literally are having their cake and eating it too, it's a liscence to print money. What's even better is that the Chinese have an escape hatch in that if the USA goes belly up, it has 1 billion consumers right at home to keep the machine going! The only way the USA has out is to crank up Interest rates and get Joe average off his credit/debt addiction so that he will have to buy products with real money, and where does that real money come from? Primary and secondary industries, and financial industries, unfortunately that process is painful and has side effects in the short term.
  5. Your missing the other end of the producer consumer relationship. Your average Joe wants his products at the lowest possible price and by doing so with as little work as possible. The problem is that we now have our friend credit and debt to do that for us. So you have average Joe wanting as much goods for as cheap as possible, and with credit/debt he has the means to do so without working. So flush with this "free money" Joe is going to be hunting for deals, deals that previously weren't possible because of the cost of production. So now we have Joe buying all sorts of cheap products from overseas on borrowed money. So how is this borrowed money stil, so cheap? Well the other countries around he world are still betting that the north American consumer will still keep buying random crap. In short average Joe is flush with "free money" and wants as much products for as cheap as possible. He wants to have his cake and eat it too. In short it hurts north American manufacturers, it only benefits companies with head offices in north America but offshore production and the financiers of all this debt. That's not capitalism, that's a house of cards based on greed and entitlement. Capitalism wouldnt let this happen because average Joe wouldnt be getting this free money in the first place.
  6. The capital flight took place already, north American workers are too damned expensive for the prices that consumers are willing to pay for products. Rich people don't take their money out of circulation, that's ignorance to s t. There are two ways out of this predicament you easterners are in, drop your wages and let the cost of products fall with the cut in demand, or be willing to pay higher prices for goods made in north America. This spoiled ass child garbage from the 1960s is really getting old and Asia is laughing at your guys collective stupidity and arrogance.
  7. A big reason hockey is more affordable out here is that there is every brand of snowmobile dealer within easy driving distance. If parents are forking out the dollars you guys say they are in urban ontario, that snowmobile is a realistic option and since farm kids can have their dads claim it as a business expense and can burn farm gas in it, its more affordable than hockey, and dad has hundreds of acres of fields for the kid to play on. Its funny because you have 16 year old kids bringing their sleds to school and to and from basketball practice and high school basketball was free anyway.
  8. Its not about the length of a drive its the geographic area and the pop. In it, and the nhl bog don't care about the border. Its a simple franchise system, the bog decides the optimum place for the franchises to be located. It would be like you owning a timmies and you get to enjoy people waiting in line, but all of a sudden someone else puts a timmies right across the street. If I'm a board member of mlse, I want everyone in southern ontario buying leafs tv, leafs jerseys, and paying thru the nose for leafs tickets. Why would I vote for someone to come in and take that revenue away from me? Unless MLSE put a franchise in hamilton, which the 29 other bog would slap down in an instant.
  9. Hockey in my town was cheap to sign up compared to you boys out in ontario, but still too expensive for the cattle guys to afford so, not much elite hockey players come out of that. I blame hockey canada and that ridiculous minor hockey garbage past 14 yrs old. One thing I like about the states is how they develop talent, all through the high school and college level, that way they at least get an education out of it rather than the clown show we have. For high school aged kids there is a proposterous amount of hockey leagues to play in, which is imo a money scam. I'd have it done thru mhsaa (in manitoba), and if the kid isn't good enough, then house league. For high school volleyball and basketball, it cost zippo except for meals, hotels and shorts/shoes. I'm pretty sure 6 man football in sk is very reasonably priced and its done through the high school system and is very popular over there. Its funny my town is kicking out more canadian college/ncaa athletes than chl hockey players both male and female. And jack weber is right about some coaches, they need to get their head out of their ass when it comes to teenagers playing more than one sport. Save it for when there is money on the line. Some people are idiots when it comes to hockey and their kids and that's why hockey is passe in my town.
  10. Why not just throw in some bicycle kick goals and put the debate to rest.
  11. That and the CBC already has a TV deal and rights to broadcast the canadian teams. Nobody went bankrupt and nullified the previous contracts. Next round of contracts will be interesting...
  12. Already being discussed in media/broadcasting
  13. The leafs had very respectable numbers in the 1990's and early 2000's, both revenues and attendance. It was more like 23 years in the darkness, plus in the 1970s there weren't that many teams, so that leaves out the 80's as the decade of darkness.
  14. And buffalo and Detroit would be upset as well. And every team wants to build a winner, the leafs aren't hiring the right guys to put a team together and they spend at the cap the same as other competitive teams, that's middle managements fault, not the top. Why has Detroit built such a good team and Toronto can't? Detroit spends the same amount of money yet they get results. You can't play the leafs aren't spending on players card anymore in the cap era. Heck Minnesota spends much less and they are on top of the league.
  15. Your putting the cart before the horse, is it because i identify as a cowboy, that im supposed to hate people because of what they believe in? And I've been thru this with kimmy. It's the individual that's a loon, not the thing they believe in, especially when a big part of it is showing why treating others with respect is a good thing. Some people in this world have poor reading comprehension when it comes to that and it causes a lot of problems. No, the founder of the Canadian Muslim congress is most definitely not a loon. He might be very left wing, but a loon he is not. Ahmadinejad on the other hand... Our atheist friend Mao from communist china was a loon. The pope who thought it would be a brilliant idea to make usury illegal and Condemn the western world to poverty in the dark ages was a loon. Loons come in all shapes and sizes.
  16. Does the rest of the world enjoy a high standard of western living that we do??? Do you want to give that up?? Here's how an economy works, someone provides a good or service which benefits someone else in exchange for money which benefits the person who provided said good or service. Everyone wins. The environment's been "destroyed" for millions of years, Your compromise sucks, there would be more poor people in Canada, and we'd be paying more for energy, and the asians would still manufacture cheaper than us or are you willing to pay more money for cdn, made products? Do you think the money fairy gives everyone money to buy things with?
  17. What the Grinch who stole Christmas? I'll have to tell the people in Whoville to guard their chimneys. I didn't know Jack Weber lived in Whoville.
  18. Then nobody would be able to vote.
  19. With a rigged vote by the cwb. Do you know what the results of the barley plebiscite was brought forth by the Tories? Marketing choice. No farmer in his right mind exclusively grows wheat.
  20. The only thing I don't like about that is how a computer picks who the top two teams are. What would be wrong with using the top 4 bowl games (fiesta, orange, rose, sugar) as a precursor to a mini playoff to find out the national champion. It seems so random. And here we go the IIHF world junior hockey countdown on tsn, really????
  21. When your up to the go daddy.com bowl or the chick fil-A bowl, it's getting to be a little ridiculous in itself there too. I'm surprised August didn't talk about this in the original thread, the championship game is determined by a computer program...
  22. Good point, I think Napoleon Torched Moscow when He narrowly beat the Russians there. I think the Russians would have followed he same recipe with the nazis.
  23. That's why I don't keep score when I go golfing. I find I have a better time when I focus on just crushing the ball, and if I am with a group, it's cart vs. Cart best ball. Makes it more competitive and allows for more teamwork/forgiveness of mistakes.
  24. Didn't the chasing of Stalingrad instead of securing the oilfields have a part to play as well?
