More VPD Problems-Chief Takes His Ball And Goes Home
Wilber replied to imatitlover's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Probably the real reason he is leaving. The VPD had a study done and it indicated they needed over a hundred new officers. Graham knew that was an impossibility so he asked for 65. The Vancouver silly council is giving him 17. He was fighting a loosing battle with this mob an knows it. These clowns want to put on an Olympics. -
US from Afghanistan to Iraq

You can drive a long way without tires. You see meth addicts in stollen vehicles do it all the time on the news. -

What do you base that statement on? You are privy to the will of a majority of Afghans? -
I Thought They Were Going To Try Harder
Wilber replied to BayLee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada

How do you shoot someone in a car in the leg? -
You prefer big wars?

I'm not a CD expert but I am a pilot and licensed aircraft maintenance engineer who spent 5 years flying the type in question. While technically it would not be impossible to modify the aircraft so control could be removed from the pilots and flown remotely, it would be a major modification involving integrated flight control, navigation and autopilot systems taking days of down time to install, not something you could do surreptitiously during the night and something that would involve a lot of people, likely including the aircraft and systems manufacturers. Even if it could be physically done, I can't imagine that you could get that many people involved in the murder of thousands of their fellow citizens and not have it leak out.

Used to be that Vancouverites were afraid to go to New York. Now they love the place but are afraid of parts of their own city or to walk in the main commercial area of Surrey, just across the river.

Canada all tapped out, Alberta goes to Germany!
Wilber replied to geoffrey's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Absolutely, do what you want. Aside from practical learning, all you really need to be learned is a modem and a library card. -
Your analogy is in error and a strawman. The USA has been involved in non-stop wars since its conception pretty and they are always fighting for peace and they have NEVER attained it, nor will as they. War again has never brought peace perhaps a cessation to conflict in that area for a short while. And because of it we have not had a major war since WW2. It's called Pax Americana. Britain was involved in constant little wars between 1815 and 1914 but there were no major world conflicts during that time. The period is called Pax Britannia. The Roman Empire fought many wars between 50 AD and 450 AD but the security and stability that Europe and most of the known world enjoyed during that period is called Pax Romana. Invariably, whenever there has been an extended period of stability and progress in the world it is because there has been someone strong enough to enforce it.

Dion hasn't said we are leaving in 2009 either, just that we are walking away from Kandahar regardless of the circumstances. He also maintains we should be doing more on the reconstruction side instead of a combat role. You guys aren't happy either way. Take your piggy bank away and you have a tantrum. When did Harper take the EI surplus. All I ever hear is that he is being criticized for letting it grow just like the Liberals. Surplus

NDP proposes Federal Minimum Wage - $10.00
Wilber replied to ClearWest's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There was a feature on the news here a couple of days ago. A security company in Kelowna that makes such things as body armour is moving much of its manufacturing to Ontario. The reason is, they can't get enough employees in spite of getting into bidding wars for people. It's ironic that people are losing their jobs because of a labour shortage. It's not like they will stay unemployed however. That's the real answer to a minimum wage, full employment. -
possible solution sounds much like Hitler's final solution eh? So, really you are saying that that we should just wipe out all of the ME; Israel, Iran, Irag Afghanistan, Ubekistan, Kazikstan, Turkey, Pakistan, India, Algeria, Syria, Saudi Arabia Qatar, Oman, Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon, Tijikistan, Turkmenistan, Kuwait, Kyrgyztan, plus a few more incidental little countries? wow, that's quite the holocaust you are advocating. Nice to know what Harper and his supporters are advocating! Get real, don't you think both sides evaluated the pros and cons of a first strike during the Cold War? The cardinal rule of any fight is that if you know you can't avoid one, never let the other guy get in the first punch.
-
Sounds a lot like the Cold War.

A complaint has been that they have been putting too much into the military end and not enough to reconstruction. Now that they are, guess what, not good enough either.

Are you implying that righties are enemies of the earth? The Oscars are billed as rewarding the best. The trouble is, when Hollywood embarks on one of its crusades, that tends to get lost in the shuffle. Did Gore get the reward because it was the best documentary or because he symbolizes their latest cause? Using it as a forum cheapens all the awards IMO.

a 200 million hospital? would be very small. Over there you could probably build something that suits their needs pretty well. You don't need the latest greatest everything to do a lot of good for people who have nothing.

You're right, lets get rid of all foreign aid.

Watched most of them for the first time in years. I also think award shows are generally a waist of time. Thought Ellen Degeneres did a great job. Whitaker probably deserved best actor but I felt kind sorry for Peter O'Toole. 0 for 8 for an actor that good. Makes you wonder. Helen Mirren, pure class.

Actually most police departments have youth liaison officers who do exactly that. I know ours does. Kids used to find something to do. They didn't always need organized activities or electronic aids. A couple of kids and a ball was about all it usually took.
-
I know they are not new but the amount of violence and organized crime surrounding them is greater that ever. Two more drug related killings in Vancouver last night. Even the legal stuff. Seems like half the western world is on anti depressants. They keep telling us we live in the number one country in the world. What do we have to be so depressed about? What do people do in poor countries who have a reason to be depressed and can't afford them. Legalizing and taxing will not work as long as the major market for our illegal drugs is the US and the penalties for manufacturing an selling them are far lower in Canada. Like it or not we are stuck with it until something changes in that market. Education does have to be a big part of it. Other than the health aspect, a big reason I quit smoking was because my kids were so brainwashed it wasn't worth the hassle of being seen by them with a cigarette. They do still allow me an occasional cigar on a special occasion though, specially if I am paying for it. The occasion that is.

Somehow we have developed into a society where a huge number of people feel they need behaviour altering drugs as a part of their life. That's the scarey part.
