Muslim Request for Separate Laws in Sweden
dugger replied to scribblet's topic in The Rest of the World
What I can't understand is, if things are so bad for the muslim communities in western countries, why do they, the muslims, stay? It seems the muslim's want to change everything to the way things were back home and do not want to follow the western way of life. Why did they emigrate to countries such as Canada, United States, Norway, Sweden etc. if they have no plans to accept the freedoms and life style of the west? Why are they here? What do they contribute? -
Well, if one is going to purchase a prayer mat, one should also purchase a compass in order to find Qiblah. The compass is a bargain...only $10.71 Cdn. The compass is made in Japan. I also noted that 10% of the profits are donated to "charity"....you know, the "charities" that purchase bomb making material used to kill and maim. Then again, I am not being politically correct in assuming this company would donate to terrorist causes. Maybe they are good Muslims.......

Congratulations!!! Ah, yes...brings back memories.....no rest, little sleep....Good luck, kid! Now, can I swear in a post this weekend? Aw, c'mon....just once....

ok....ok....how about Stockwell Day ? Now there's someone who looks way cool in a wetsuit. And...he was the leader of the Refooooorm Party. He will be an excellent choice as Ambassador to the United States. Not sure about qualifications but he looks good in a wetsuit. Now I will no doubt be chastised....again.... it is a cruel world...thank you and goodbye.....

Please ignore above post....Global news has already mentioned this possibilty......I can't believe it.... it was a joke......good grief.....

People!! People!!! Have you taken leave of your senses??? Belinda Stronach?? HA! You people have forgotten about......Hedy Fry! Hedy Fry...Imaginative (Burning crosses on lawns), forthright , truthful, short, raven haired, defeated Svend Robinson... did I mention raven haired. Highly intelligent ....well, smart and a born leader. She would be perfect to lead the Liberals. Now, bring back Preston Manning and, for the Bloc old Luc Bouchard and THAT would be some leader's debate. On second thought....... disclaimer: Please note: in no way is this intended to be a sexist, politically incorrect assessment and is only posted as an attempt at humour. I did not intend to insult nor cause to any particular group pain and suffering and I therefore apologize should anyone take offence at the statements as noted above. There, that should cover it.

I have a question.....seriously.....please don't get upset....I just was wondering if Belinda is a Leaf fan and, if so, wonder who her favourite player is ? Ya, I know, who cares.... Wonder, also, why the Penguins, if sold, wouldn't relocate to Hamilton? Nothing against Winnipeg....love Winnipeg....should have a team... But Winnipeg Penguins doesn't really sound right.

Spent some time in South Carolina and I picked up a southern accent.... And I really liked "Y'all come back, now." And...I had some of the folks there ending sentences with..."eh." Southern accent with a touch of Canadiana... the South Carolinians I met were wonderful and such a sense of humour. Had a great time.

My Son-in Law is a police officer in Illinois and, when we go visit, I go out with him as a "ride-along " during his work time. As soon as the other Police Officers see me at the precinct...which I call the police station... I get the usual jokes about "Are you going ooot and aboot to-day, eh?'' And...they all want to hear me say roof. However, after a visit up here to Canada my son-in-law is using "eh" like a real Canadian! He says it takes about two weeks to "get back to normal" just as an aside, I had to purchase an article at a store in Chicago and the cashier, noting I was from Canada, asked me..seriously..."does it stay dark most of the time in Canada?" She honestly believed that our time was much different than that in Illinois.

Martin Says Harper Will "Politicize" Court
dugger replied to tml12's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Eureka, Can't you post anything without throwing about your insane insults? You act like a typical schoolyard bully - anyone who disagees with you is automatically your enemy. You, apparently, can't discuss anything without name calling, sarcasm and idiotic statements. You call people stupid? Classy. But, then, that is your way. You are so full of yourself that it it is sickening. All you have been doing is painting Stephen Harper as the Anti-Christ and defending Paul Martin with a zeal not unlike the followers of Bin Laden. You only see one side of the coin and are either too lazy or too stupid (one of your terms) to turn that coin over. Your postings always..always...degenerate into name calling and hurtful statements. And, when you reply, which you no doubt will in your provocative way, do not start with the name calling, although that seems to be your main talent. As an aside to Hicksey...good posts! Watch, though, we will both be painted as idiots..or worse. However, just remember where it comes from. -
For the Liberals And Paul Martin, I Give Thanks

eureka: Far be it from me to want to mix it up with you..what a childish, petulant retort. You are a real piece of work. Hope you have a wonderful christmas, anyway. You, sir, madam or whatever you are, have absolutely no sense of humour. Take a bloody valium.. -

One does not have to spend one's life perusing other political forums to find denigrating terms aimed at Harper and Martin - incredulous as it may seem - but they are, in actuality, "here." Such disparaging remarks as dope peddler and pious weasel for Harper and schmuk, slime, lying snake used to describe Martin...they were some of the colloquialisms used to describe the two. Now I would like to point out that not once, in any way, have I used such terms to describe either Martin or Harper, unlike others, dope peddler coming to mind. Reading your post I discovered that, as usual, oleaginous remarks are the forte of the acrimonius poster. One other thing........Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.... -

Much thanks for your advice on posting procedures and the proper way to form one's postings. Unfortunately, when I first created my post, after viewing it with spaces, it was inordinately long...even I was bored reading it... I "scrunched" it up to make it appear less "cumbersome" to read. I will be very careful about posting anything that causes problems in the future. Hope that meets the standards of this site. -
ThankASoldierWeek.com -- I Think this is cool!
dugger replied to bren's topic in The Rest of the World
I haven't been around here long enough be able to see the "mental capacity" of the various posters. That said, calling members of the Armed Forces "suckers" and, basically, dismissing the horrors of world war two with inane comments, is sad and brings into question the bitterness behind such comments. However, that said, the poster of these comments has the freedom to say this and that is what members of the armed forces fought for...the freedom to be able to make comments..no matter how "dumb" they are. Also this posters further "shot" at police officers was uncalled for. -

Off subject but... Shoop...One enters Paul Martin and CSL in Google and guess what? Somewhere in the list of articles available is one from Canada Free Press, about loopholes, etc. and seemed to fit into the "discussion" about Mr. Martin. As for your comment about "right wing hacks" who regularly read Canada Free Press..I assume you are including me, due to the article ...you have crossed the line. People have the freedom to read whatever they want...and that includes Canada Free Press as well as any other site that produces things of interest. What people read is of no concern of yours. By the way, I read the Toronto Star but that does not make me a Liberal supporter and I also read the Toronto Sun, among other newspapers..which does not make me a supporter of the CPC, either, at this juncture. I do not "regularly" read the site you commented on but I certainly will be perusing it ,now. Also, the comment about partisan, ignorant columnists ....they are on both sides. As for the mention of character assassination, one need look no further than Political Forums that refer to Stephen Harper as Harpo, bozo etc. I don't see you, Eureka, getting on your soap box about that. Interesting.... Also, as to the remark about posting full columns - gotcha. However, if one spends the time to check other areas one would notice a fair number of newspaper articles and full columns. Guess the full columns that point out "failings" of the current government and it's leader are not allowed. Dully noted. -

Jolly Roger better flag for Canada Steamship Lines by Judi McLeod, Canadafreepress.com January 5, 2005 On land, Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin has proven himself to be an artful dodger whenever the $100 million in government kickbacks to Liberal-friendly communication agencies is on the discussion table. ** remaining post removed due to copyright infringment** -
American bashing is something that the Liberals do, oh so well. Martin is going to be in the Jane-Finch area, apparently, to make the announcement about the gun ban. Well, he is certainly picking the right area but it just won't work. And, as was said, this is a vote getting ploy for Southern Ontario....and you know what....it will work. Ontario voters, many of them now immigrants, are getting so much from the government that they are afraid to change. Don't wanna lose those benefits. Jane-Finch is a prime example.

Sorry for the double post...I'm new....

I meant to say any punk who is caught with a gun with a criminal record or caught during the committing of a crime gets 10 years ...etc...not the law abiding citizens who are gun collectors......just in case someone misunderstood what I was saying... By the way, how is this going to play with gun collectors?
-
To a criminal it doesn't really matter if the gun he is going to use in any crime is legal..c'mon, now....banning hand guns sounds good but to the criminal it's just another "law" to break. These punks want a gun??? They'll get one. It would be better if, along with this"banning hand guns" , when any punk is caught with a hand gun they automatically get 10 years - no parole..no plea bargaining - in jail...maximum security. Also, if they are not Canadian citizens, deport them back to wherever they came from after the sentence. With our Immigration policy, if they are deported before jail time, they will be back! Hell, in China, if anyone commits a crime with any type of weapon they are executed, by firing squad, and their families get the bill for the bullets. I kinda like that......

Election promises and 'caveat emptor'
dugger replied to theloniusfleabag's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Don't forget most of the politicians are lawyers....that must tell you something...Just have a look at what Mcguinty did in Ontario. He lied his way into office and then broke all the promises he made. Politicians have one thing in common...they can't be trusted. Overpaid stiffs who couldn't care less about the people who pay their salaries....and their pensions...but that's another story,, -
Wednesday, December 7, 2005 Posted at 10:26 PM EST Canadian Press Ottawa — Prime Minister Paul Martin will venture into a violence-plagued area of Toronto on Thursday to announce a sweeping ban on handguns. Mr. Martin was scheduled to visit Toronto's troubled Jane-Finch area to make a "safer communities announcement." Liberal sources have confirmed the announcement includes a ban on handguns. No other details were immediately available. Handguns are already severely restricted in Canada and a handgun registry has been in force for more than 60 years. But a rash of recent gun deaths in Toronto has prompted Martin to promise to crack down even more. Gunfire was responsible for 50 of the 74 murders so far this year in the city. The rash of shootings prompted city police to launch a gun amnesty program in November, during which they collected 261 weapons and more than 1,500 rounds of ammunition. A ban on handguns is likely to be popular in other large urban centres as well, like Montreal and Vancouver, where residents have been disturbed by recent firearms violence. Windsor MP Joe Comartin, the New Democratic Party's justice critic, said the announcement sounds like "smoke and mirrors." "Basically, all handguns in Canada are illegal now," said Mr. Comartin. "The only people who get permits are those who are using them for recreational purposes or those who need it for their own personal safety and there's not a lot of those that are granted." He said the announcement sounds like "a political ploy during an election to garner some headlines and make it look like you're actually doing something when, in fact, what you're proposing is pretty meaningless." Given the number of stolen guns used in crime, Mr. Comartin said there had been some discussion earlier this year at the all-party Commons justice committee about tightening regulations governing safe storage and use of handguns. But that is something that falls under provincial jurisdiction. Mr. Comartin said the one thing the federal government could do would be to stop the flow of illegal firearms into Canada from the United States. It remains to be seen how the ban will go over in rural areas, where the issue is more about rifles. Many Prairie rifle owners have never forgiven the Liberals for creating a registry for long guns. Created 10 years ago, the registry was supposed to cost a mere $2-million. Instead, its cost has ballooned to more than $1-billion. The Conservatives, who declined comment on the expected handgun ban Wednesday, have called the program a boondoggle and Auditor General Sheila Fraser has sharply criticized the waste and mismanagment that have pervaded the registry. Gun owners warned at the time that the registry was the first step toward confiscation of their guns. Mr. Martin's announcement may be seen as confirmation of their worst fears. The Liberals, who desperately need to regain support in Quebec and hang on to their urban base in Ontario, appear to be willing to sacrifice their meagre support in the Prairies in a bid to bolster their central Canadian base. But the gambit may yet cost Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan her Edmonton seat and make it more difficult for Finance Minister Ralph Goodale to hang on to his somewhat safer Regina riding. Currently, handguns in Canada are classified as either restricted or prohibited weapons. Canadians can receive a licence to own a restricted weapon if they can prove it's part of a gun collection or used for target practice or target-shooting competitions. They can also be granted licences to use the firearm under "limited circumstances," such as in the role of a police officer. Initial reaction to the handgun ban was predictably negative from the firearms lobby. "It's going to accomplish nothing," said Wayne Fields of LaSalle, Ont., president of the Law-Abiding Registered Firearms Association. "There's already all types of legislation and illegal use of handguns is out of control." Mr. Fields said the Liberals have long been focusing their energy in the wrong direction. "They have to concentrate on the illegal drugs and the criminals that are using the firearms — get them off the street. They're not going to get rid of guns — it's impossible." Mr. Fields said while he doesn't think the announcement will do Mr. Martin any good on the national stage, he admitted it might get him some votes in Ontario, and particularly in Toronto. "He's trying to protect his strength here in Ontario against the Conservatives, in particular in Toronto where they're strong. The election is going to be won or lost in Ontario. "Why the Conservatives haven't made it an (election) issue is beyond me." He said any legislation to either register or ban guns is "lame-duck legislation because half the gun owners aren't licensed and two-thirds of the guns aren't registered." Kin Chung, who owns a gun shop in Vancouver, said he opposes any kind of sweeping ban on handguns because legitimate dealers like him would lose up to 80 per cent of their business. "I'm absolutely not happy," he said. Mr. Chung said a ban would also not be welcome by law-abiding citizens who register their guns as required by law and use them for target shooting, for example. "Those who buy a gun legitimately, got a licence, go through a safety course, they are not about to commit a crime." Most guns used by gangs aren't registered because they're often smuggled into Canada to commit violence, Mr. Chung said. "They should plug that hole." He said Ottawa needs to address other issues, such as drugs and gang violence that often lead to shootings. Don't you feel so much safer now????

So what if the CIA is/was/are landing planes in Canada. If so they are probably carrying terrorists to some other area to be interogated. Your comment about "terror suspects to be tortured"... so what? These are bad people who are garbage and whatever information they can give..through any means..is a good thing. Lots of noise about nothing.

Which MP Would You Most Like To See Lose Their Sea
dugger replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They're on my list. Parrish isn't running again. I hate Fry. Be nice to see her lose, the shrill, whiny, bigoted old crone. I'd like to see Volpe go. Everything about him smells of sleaze. I despise Eleanor Caplan, too. Good riddance when she's gone. Liza Frulla is an arogant, elitist snot. Ditto for Pierre Pettigrew. Uffal Dosanjh is a two-faced political snake, Don Boudrea, as greasy a political operator as Ontario ever produced, won't run again, thankfully. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> C'mon now...tell us how ya REALLY feel "Bigoted old crone...love that!!! As for me, in my riding Ruby..the bollywood movie star and "beauty pagent winner"..Dahlia is the incumbent...haven't got a clue as to what she has done... She's as thick as a plank.....Will she lose? Does it matter, cause the CPC candidate will probably be just as dumb....will vote Rhino Party I was told, by the way, Eleanor Caplan was snokeling in waters off Nova Scotia last summer and a tourist boat was going by, looking for whales, just as she surfaced. The Captain shouted "Thar She Blows".....and all the tourists got a good picture of, what they thought was a whale. Turned out to be Eleanor. Other than that I can't stand Joe Fontana, that Fry twit, Anne Mclellan...Now that is a piece of work. Her voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard, smarmy, arrogant ...jeez..imagine waking up next to her every morning.... I think I would not want to wake up...and, of course, Belinda "I'm sooo beautiful and rich and you're not..na na" Stronach.....a pox on them all. Oh yea..Scott Brison.....yuk... almost forgot...Pierre Pettigrew.....reminds me of the alter ego of the Purple Pimpernel....Could just see Pierre in purple tights and a tutu leaping and dancing on Parliament hill singing the Lumberjack song....
