Our Charter 'WAS NOT RATFIED' by Canadian citizens. Remember DEMOCRACY = 50+1% relating to the majority.
-
I would like what the U.S. incorporates on the federal level a democratic republic and on the State level 'direct democracy'. In Canada Quebec comes closest to mimicking the U.S. model with its own provincial Charter fully discriminating against other provinces who are denied that opportunity to possess their own Charter by the federal government, who should have offered all provinces the same.
-
This part of the Charter is a carry over of 'fundamental rights' Canada's 1960 Bill of Rights and there is nothing new there is there? But under 'equality rights' when combined with 'fundamental freedoms' the government can legally put its own spin on whatever postion it feels like taking, through the courts. This is not 'democracy' but the actions of a 'totalitarian government', IOW a BANANA REPUBLIC. DEMOCRACY = 50 + 1%, equating to the majority. On what issues do you think Ontarians wanted a Liberal Mc.Guinty government? Health care tax?, Broken promises, Lies?

what canada is not- a democracy
Leafless replied to no queenslave's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Obviously you don't understand, that it is the power factor why the Queen is retained in Canada and politicians choose to keep it that way. A republic would lessen the powers of a prime minister in Canada. -

Are you mature enough to realize the Queen has very little to do with Canada and if we are anyone's slave, it would be the prime minister of Canada who has more powers then President George W. Bush or the powers of a king. PM's for instance have served Quebec well for years in case you have not noticed without going to Canadians for anything, feeding their own political self interest, including the creation of the Charter. -
Sure he did by refusing to fund faith based schools and at the same time discriminating against non-Catholics violating Charter rights. And why shouln't he. Mc.Guinty didn't have a leg to stand on while discriminating against other faiths. We all know why Catholic teachers support Mc.Guinty who's wife is also a Catholic teacher. Teachers contracts are coming up shortly and do you suppose Mc.Guinty is going to give them whatever they ask for? Total hypocrisy and will most likely prove Mc.Guinty is no friend of the tax payer of Ontario relating to maintaining Catholic dominance and highly paid Catholic teachers while referring to Ontario's schools as public schools.

Yes, and that is what you call a liberal democracy. I know what a representative democracy is. Your the one who said: " Well I'm against any constitution or charter simply because I don't think it's required to have a successful democracy." Read the Charter sometime. It is a dictatorial, socialist, undemocratic piece of GARBAGE and does racially discriminate on the basis of language and culture.
-
In Canada we do not have 'direct democracy' and are represented by a Liberal democracy meaning you don't have a choice but to abide by a Liberal democracy. No other form of democracy is available. In Canada we have an 'illiberal democracy, a liberal democracy where protections that form a liberal democracy are not enforced. The Charter racially discriminates against Canadians by the same Charter that is supposed to protect all Canadians but racially and undemocratically advances other groups. IOW-nullifies the Charter.
-
And you fully have the right to make totally nonsensical statements. The Charter is nothing more than a tool that serves the interest of Quebec.
-
Good old Liberal democracy gives the illusion of FREEDOM by advocating tolerance and diversity BUT with an ultimate source of authority, AKA, as the good old CHARTER, fully consented by most freedom loving, unsuspecting Canadians. This is freedom? Liberal democracy AKA, as MULTICULTURALISM is really a SHAM, as it fully accommodates unspoken limits protecting a singular identity as we just finished witnessing with the Ontario provincial elections and what 'should not have been', Mc.Guinty and company protecting ONLY Catholic interest.

Hopefully, before Canada turns into the laughing stock of the world.

That can be changed provincially, like Quebec has done from 'religion' to 'language', which in Ontario provides a no lose situation for Francophones as Ontario provides both at tax payers expense French language or French religious faith based schools, despite anything enshrined in the Constitution. And I believe any province has the power to incorporate their own Charter and also incorporate their own 'official language', that applies throughout the entire province like Quebec has done with their 'French Language Charter'.
-
"Bizarre situation"? Well, I suppose it is bizarre when the Ottawa citizen goes beating up on FPTP in favour of MMP because the FPTP fails to ensure that representation in the legislature reflects a party's level of electoral support. http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...eb8abec&p=1 But what is the cause of real voter apathy? 1. An over opinionated media that tries to control your line of thought, with a series of articles that includes their preferred party and leader, but basically ignores everyone else. 2. The acceptance of corrupt political leaders who, in the case of Mr. Mc.Guinty just about broke every campaign promise in order to get elected. 3. Unreasonable conditions placed by the premier relating to the passing of MMP. 4. Failure of all parties and the press, to properly address the important issues affecting the the daily lives of residents in the province of Ontario. What can you add to the cause of voter apathy?

http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...f1-163ba6d2014d I can hardly wait to see the extent of Maher Arar's torture lawsuit against the U.S. This can be especially true when previously reported by the Ottawa Citizen: "Very likely" does not constitute proof, and besides. http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...60-d86a00142336 Good luck Mr. Arar , you are going to need it!
-
Who the hell is "we" , or are you one of the ones that believe in a total lack of democracy other than the privilege of voting for your MP? NOT IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE CONSERVATIVE AND NOT FROM QUEBEC or at least, please supply proof, that I am wrong, which in turn if you don't supply proof, will prove YOU ARE WRONG!

My daughter didn't go to school today

FTA, You have already made it abundantly clear early in this thread that you agreed with guyser. So why attack me for simply posting my opinion? If you don't like it, that is to bad. Now move on and or bother someone else with your childish self- righteous behavior, ok. -
Well, in that case, have a nice 'turkey birthday' or should that be 'have a nice birthday, turkey'.
-
He also remained a citizen of Syria. He held dual citizenship both Canada and Syria. That is a contentious statement as Arar's own lawyers referred to that statement "as very likely", but not proven since the U.S. had their own condemning information on Arar, which to date has never been released. At that time the RCMP did not have sufficient evidence to Arar's ties as a terrorist and their investigation was interrupted and derailed by the U.S. decision to deport Arar. http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...60-d86a00142336

Separatist ideologies are associated with Quebec nationalistic aspirations. Threaten their nationalism and they become instantaneously, separatist. Harper will be towing a dangerous line and one that should not be tolerated in this country as it politically discriminates against the rest of Canada's provinces.

There is no URL. That definiton was sourced from my hardcover copy of the 'New Lexicon Webster Dictionary of the English Language' a deluxe encyclopedia edition. Well, we do know it for a fact. What do you think the reason was Francophones moving into and populating the little city of Hull, Quebec, now known as Gatineau Quebec, from Montreal and other parts of Quebec for their good looks or for federal jobs across the river in Ottawa, after Trudeau's implementing the Charter of Rights and Freedoms? Stop trying to misrepresent facts by trying to impress the false fact the federal government controls bilingualism throughout the provinces of Canada. I will give you one compelling reason. Thank God, you will never see Ontario 'officially bilingual' because of TORONTO.

And what is that, approx. 50% of Quebec's voting population?

This is where you are being irrational. The level of arming oneself could make you a criminal. I suggest you joining the military where no doubt you will feel comfortable. -

Conservatives keeping list of Jews
Leafless replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I thought Jews wanted their religion to be normalized like the Christian religion according to the articles I have read around the time of Christian Christmas. I think they simply picked Jewish sounding names off of the voters list and mailed out some cards. It could be they confused the name 'Kofman' with the more Jewish name 'Kaufman'. -
Conservatives keeping list of Jews
Leafless replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
jdobbin, you wrote, "Unsolicited mail that seems to comes from lists people keep makes a lot of people nervous. The fact that the Tories are keeping lists of Jews is rather disturbing." Prpobably an error, so what. Any similar type mail I get like that, it is simply popped into the waste paper basket rather than contact the media, who then as with the case of the 'Ottawa Citizen' then promptly prints this as a main story on page #1, in order to try to embarrass Mr. Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada.
