Here's what he said: "It's easy to be conspicuously compassionate if others are forced to pay the cost." Several assumptions here. First, the use of the word "conspicuous" questions one's true motivations without basis. And saying others are forced to pay the cost - not founded in reality. We all pay our taxes, and our taxes support those less fortunate, and I am glad to contribute my taxes for other Canadians in need. His quote is skeptical of the true compassion people feel for others, and is a cynical point of view meant to turn others from the generosity society needs to function well. It's a dark statement on humanity that I do not agree with. It's really rather ugly.

It was Poilievre's race to lose, and he lost it big time by copying Trump. He tried to import the culture wars, and Canadians were too savvy, and rejected that. And what was up with copying Trump's slogan "America First" (translation: f*ck everyone else) - and trying to rally the Canadian public with "Canada First" - that just doesn't work with Canadians! We see ourselves as cooperators, not arrogant fools. "Canada strong" much better resonated with Canadians.

I'm so perturbed by the betrayal of the US maybe I am not thinking straight. If China wants to do fair trade with us, I'm in.

Why I will vote for Liberals on Monday?
Radiorum replied to CITIZEN_2015's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think there is going to be a lot of people who voted Conservative all their lives who will be voting for Carney because Poilievre just sounds too much like Trump. -
But you have just described Trump. Matthew 25 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Lol! The investigation stems from "media reports" - not any type of evidence. So blatantly corrupt! So transparently scummy. “Based on media reports,” federal housing director William J. Pulte wrote, “Ms. Letitia James has, in multiple instances, falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms.” He listed several statutes he said James “could” have violated and urged the Justice Department to consider “criminal prosecution.”

Yes, a plan to bring back manufacturing to the US requires a long-term strategy, and Trump is not a long-term-strategy kind of guy. He thinks and acts only in the short-term. Trump says his tariffs will induce the onshoring of manufacturing back to the US, and at the same time raise $6 trillion dollars in revenue. These two things cannot happen at the same time! He only uses them as talking points to cover his true intentions – which is to use tariffs as bargaining chips to get what he wants out of other countries. He loves tariffs for one reason – for the power he thinks they gave him to bend other countries to his will. For companies to suddenly invest the time and resources into building in the US requires a guarantee that the tariffs are permanent, and Trump has given every indication that they are negotiable. That kind of uncertainty does not invite long-term investment.

Çhina's great cultural revolution comes to America
Radiorum replied to Hodad's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
How about journalism students being told by the Dean of the Journalism at Columbia Journalism School to not post anything about the Middle East, or Gaza, or the Ukraine, on their social media accounts, because "Nobody can protect you. These are dangerous times." We know that Columbia gave in to Trump's demands to recover $400 million in funding. Free, my foot. -

Nothing I have mentioned concerned this, and it is an entirely different conversation. This has nothing to do with anything I mentioned. You sound desperate. -

So you agree that he is, but he is allowed?? No. trump's grabs for power make the US a lot less free. -
Here is her entire quote, and it is from 2021. "The mob who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 to try to stop Congress from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities were behaving like domestic enemies of our country," Gabbard said. "But let's be clear, the John Brennans, Adam Schiffs and the oligarchs in Big Tech who are trying to undermine our constitutionally protected rights and turn our country into a police state with KGB-style surveillance are also domestic enemies — and much more powerful, and therefore dangerous, than the mob that stormed the Capitol." https://www.theblaze.com/news/tulsi-gabbard-adam-schiff-john-brennan-domestic-enemies

Here are a few, I am sure there are more: National Institute of Health, US Institute of Peace, The Kennedy Centre, The Smithsonian, The American Women’s History Museum, 45 colleges under investigation by the Trump Admin (not to mention blackmailing Columbia), Foreign Influence Task Force, Task Force KleptoCapture, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Federal Election Commission (FEC), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), The U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) - Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Martí, and Radio Free Asia …. Oh, wait, I almost forgot about his takeover of the Supreme Court and his insistence that he is above the law and not subject to the decisions of judges! -
