Teacher pay in the state of Florida (and it might be the same in other state, but I only work in the Florida system so I'll only speak for Florida) is determined at the COUNTY LEVEL, and is subject to property taxes. Example: Smaller and RICHER Seminole County pays teachers more than larger and poorer Orange County. 3. The two most important reasons for teachers to leave the profession in Florida is (a) teacher pay in certain areas cannot keep up with mushrooming housing costs or (b) teachers have just HAD IT with @ss hole helicopter parents and administrators who continue to question EVERY move a teacher makes. (I shut the fck up in the teacher's lounge during lunch and listen to what the best teachers in America say.) There was an 11th grade reading class I took over from a teacher who had just passed the bar and had been hired in a law office in Orlando. Stuff like that. 4.
