  1. Well Bernier will never win yet even get 5 seats so nothing will change. Canadians are way way too leftist socialist to evern consider the PPC. Which means that we keep doing the same until the whole system explodes..whenever that is..this year or in 5-10 years..no idea anymore.
  2. I have to admit a lot of what you say is true and I agree. Its apathetic Canadians who put up with all the charades in Ottawa. Quebec has been wagging the dog far too long and yet most Canadians just shrug. O Toole likely isnt a saviour..I have maybe only see a few politicians in my lifetime that were capable of serious change for the better. I would say Margaret Thatcher and Ralph Klein stand out in my mind as two who made hard but the right decisions which ultimately proved quite positive for their jurisdictions. Paul Martin did an admirable job as finance minister finally cutting the deficit..perhaps on the back of the provinces and EI but he did make some serious cuts to government. Now we literally have the howdy doody show running the country and most Canadians seem ok with that. The corporate elites are more or less running the world now hence this so called democracy is pretty much a farce. We have two choices which often arent that different..same in the USA. People just oscillate back and forth from one to the other. Our first past the post system is a total joke..nothing democratic about it..some ridings have twice the population as others but count the same..I live in a riding that votes massively Liberal hence my vote is completely meaningless in this system.
  3. Swine flu killed way more people under the age of 60 than COVID has..many healthy people and children as well so it was a lot scarier in that sense. COVID typically kills very old and sick people who likely had little time left anyway..I know some people will find my remarks harsh but that is more or less the sad reality. Many people who died of COVID this year likely would have died within 6-12 months. If you look at the statistics in North America or Europe the vast majority of deaths are in people over 70 and even 80 and often with serious health issues. So what we should have done from the beginning was put resources into the nursing homes and protect the elderly and other vulnerable people. Instead we shut everything down and put tons of resources into hospitals and little into nursing homes..many of the hospitals were even quieter than usual in Canada as so many surgeries and other important treatments were cancelled. Again, how many people will die because of the governments response to COVID. Millions more people have been pushed into extreme poverty and many will die of starvation because of COVID policies...https://time.com/5864803/oxfam-hunger-covid-19/ Of course the western world only cares about its own so this is barely noted. But just in our own country the number of people who will permanently lose jobs and businesses will have a devastating effect on the health and well being of thousands of people with some indirectly dying. How many cancer treatments were delayed or cancelled..how many people will die from this?? The addition of a mind boggling 400 billion dollars in debt just to the federal debt..not counting the tens of billions in debt each province has added and then the cities. Our health care system was already horrible before COVID..where will the money come from to fund it now over the next 50 years??? How about our social programs..infrastructure..where will the money come from..we just added 50 percent to the national debt in 6 months..it took us 50 years to get to 700 billion and in 6 months we added 400 billion..its ludicrous. Much of this money was to pay people to sit at home doing nothing. Instead we should have put billions in the nursing homes and properly kept those people protected..we blew it there and then on top of it we messed up everyone elses lives and for what??? The vast majority of people under 60 have little consequences to this virus..
  4. The financial crisis coming will destroy this country. Quebec will finally get its wish and leave. The west will be so angry at the mismanagement of the Trudeau government and become sick and tired of easterners taking them for granted. Ontario may have carried the west way way back but its been a long time and lets talk about now..and in recent times its Alberta which has been carrying a lot of this country on its shoulders. Its Ontarians who keep voting for Trudope as well even though he is so clearly a complete fluff ball. Yes we dont have great choices in this country but Trudeau from day one was clearly all about image and glitz but no substance, no integrity and no competence. Yet Ontario still supports him.
  5. 800K sounds like a lot but out of 7 billion people its tiny. And lets keep in mind that 80-90 percent of deaths are people over 70 and especially 80 already with serious health conditions. How many of these people would have been alive in 6 months or a year..I know it sounds cruel..but it is what it is. I feel the government could have spent far less money that they have and instead funnelled tens of billions of dollars into the nursing homes to properly deal with COVID-19. Wit more staff, better trained staff, better supervision, higher paid staff, and proper protocols and equipment many countries including Canada would have cut the death rate by over 50 percent while at the same time keeping most of the economy going. The reality from all the numbers out there..just have a look..is that people under 50 and even 60 have very low risk of anything serious from this virus so why is everyone paying the price for this. We cant afford to throw 400 billion dollars out the window to pay young people to do nothing while small businesses struggle to survive. How many health procedures were cancelled because of COVID which indirectly will kill countless other people. How many people have lost their jobs and businesses because of the lockdown which will also cause some people to die or become sick. A lot of people die from other things than COVID but when you have the media talk nonstop about it of course everyone will freak out. How many children were deprived of an education when they have next to no risk from this virus. Meanwhile the swine flu which can be quite serious for young people we did nothing..nothing. How do you think the health care system in Canada will be funded over the next 20-50 years now that we just added 400 billion dollars to the debt. You dont think that maybe that might compromise health care and other social programs which will actually kill people. Instead lets all freak out and obsess about COVID while we burn our house down..bravo..
  6. COVID-19 seems to be one of those "crises" being used as a reason for governments to take away freedom and spend crazy amounts of money. My theory is that we have been in a record breaking debt bubble for many years now..around the world..notably the western world. Central bankers were starting to get worried again last fall hence the stress int he repo market. They all know the end game of their debt bubble that they created will be a massive crash. The only way to keep the game going is to inject more and more debt into the system. But they need an excuse..a "crisis" to do so..voila..along comes COVID-19 which really is not so deadly but the powers that be used their media clout to scare the crap out of everyone. This allowed them to print trillions in a few months in the USA to once again prop up this gigantic bubble. At some point the bubble will pop..this year..next year..maybe in 5 years..and they will blame it all on COVID-19..not the irresponsible actions of the central bankers who most people think are geniuses. Lockdowns also allow government to control society more.take away rights..make people dependant..its a total disaster and it will end so badly..its going to be something to watch..
  7. I am happy they didnt pick Peter Mackay..a real boring traditional type of politician than would not excite anyone. I dont much about Eric O'Toole but at first glance he seems to be a better choice than Scheer or Mackay. But not sure I nor many other people are too excited yet. In the end all politicians disappoint..there rarely is a saviour. The country is in such a mess like most western nations that I doubt anyone will be able to pull us out without a wrenching financial crisis which ultimately could very well lead to the breakup of the country. I actually think western Canada should seriously think of leaving..Manitoba and west maybe get the Yukon in there as well..the culture and ideology of people in that part of the country is much closer. Quebec should be on its own..let them pay for their own silliness for once. Ontario has been dragging the country around far too long..lets see them on their own and who cares about Atlantic Canada..let them join the states if they want.
  8. Apparently now people who work 3 full weeks can get $400/week for 6 months because of the new EI guidelines. Regardless of how permanent of a solution this is intended to be, we are creating a new welfare-hungry generation - ie socialists. These people have no idea or concern about the mathematics of billions per month going to people for nothing, all they care about is what they want. oh brother..I didnt know about that. Where in the heck are we going to get the money to pay for all of this. There is a multi century day of reckoning coming up with all the debt the western world is racking up to maintain their overbloated standard of living. We in the western world are living way way beyond our means because we think somehow we deserve it. At some point it will all come crashing down and Asia will end up being the clear superpower. Canadians in general have gotten so smug, entitled and lazy in general and we will pay the price for it. When you consider that most Canadians think Justin Trudeau was the best choice to run the country it gives you and idea how screwed we are. I blame those Canadians which unfortunately is the majority now in bringing the eventual crash of this country. I guess the move towards socialism is part of it..I dont mind some socialism but not to the extent we are at now. Giving people generous amounts of money to do nothing and encourage them to do nothing when there are small businesses suffering because they cant find any help is just ludicrous.
  9. I blame the Canadians who voted for Trudeau twice. This guy clearly was a lightweight from day one..it was clear he got in because of his charm and last name. He has no real work experience..he has never had to worry about money..losing a job. And somehow Canadians thought he was the best man. Its not Trudeaus fault..it was obvious from day one who he was..it is the voters fault for being so naive and superficial to think he was the best choice. So the results of his massive addition to the debt, which again is no surprise coming from him, will fall on the shoulder of those same voters but unfortunately on the rest of us as well who did not vote for him. All the western world has pretty much screwed themselves..only Sweden had some ounce of courage and intelligence to try and plot a reasonable path.
  10. I am going to make a general comment as I havent read through all this thread. I agree that the country we have turned into is an embarassment to me. The fiscal imprudence of the Federal government is beyond my worst nightmares and I am pretty pessimistic at most times. But the number..350 billion possibly ending up at 500 billion deficit this year alone..and likelty 100-200 billion next year. The numbers are staggering..its 50 percent added to the national debt in less than a year and for what??? A virus that frankly is not that deadly to the vast majority of people..in fact most people have pretty benign symptoms no worse than cold or regular flu. Yes it affects the elderly worse and others with health issues but why lock down all of society? We should have put all the resources into protecting the vulnerabler from day one..ie the nursing homes. We probably could have put 30 billion dollars into thes facilities right away to hire more staff..keep them out of multiple centres..proper training and supervision and protocols..better pay and equipment and we would have cut the number of deaths by 50 perecent or more and we could have kept most of the economy running and hence not spend a fortune paying people not to work and even encourage them not to work. Now Canadians love this..free money..they dont need to work..working from home..but what a cost..this debt will cost far more to our society over decades both in terms of peoples health and lives but also there standard of living. How will we fund our already poor health care system with all this new debt..how will we pay for all these social programs..how will we aviod not increasing taxes sky high hence reducing people living standards..these all will kill people. The COVID response will clearly kill more people over the longer term than we saved from COVID.
  11. So true and so sad. It drives me crazy to see the amount of money this government is spending on a pandemic that frankly is not nearly as bad as some claim. We should have in the end put 30-50 billion dollar into the nursing homes..hire more people...pay them more..strict protocols..proper supervision and adequate equipment and we would have cut the number of deaths in Canada by 50-80 percent. Instead we shut everything down and then to make matters worse we encouraged people not to work or look for work by giving them pretty generous benefits. So now we added 50 percent to the debt in less than a year..keep in mind that it took about 50 years to amass 700 billion in debt and in one year we added over 350 billion to it. And the worst thing is that nobody seems to care. I barely hear the media or anyone concerned about this. Instead everyone continues to freak out about a virus which has a death rate of 1 percent or less and mainly to people over the age of 70.
