Quebec superior court prevents destroying gun data
CPCFTW replied to WWWTT's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
AFAIK the "province's" gun registry is just the data from the federal gun registry that the province refuses to dispose of. And the federal electorate voted in favour of disposing of the data within the context of our democratic system... Good enough for you? -

Imagine an IP address registry that registered everyone's ip addresses and tracked their internet usage. Now imagine another party was elected promising to abolish this registry. Would you want a provincial government to still access this registry? The problem with a province wanting to keep a federal registry is that the federal electorate voted to destroy the registry. -

You get daily exposure to both sexes that you will have to socialize with in the real world, and you are exposed to the biologically normal relationship. Not that there's anything wrong with being gay... but even if we accept that being gay is biological, you still have a 97% chance of having a straight child who would benefit more being exposed to straight love/intimacy. -

I think his post had a touch of hyperbole, and I do disagree with his argument that children should only be raised by a woman and a man. But it's probably the most healthy relationship that a child could be raised in. -

How do I sound frustrated? There you go again, always trying to empathize! I would argue that the reaction to 9/11 was an opportunistic and calculated, not emotional. In the case of foreign policy, being more empathetic would probably be a good thing though. I'm more concerned about domestic policy. -

I already said it is a useful trait to possess... but government policy, which is funded through coercion, shouldn't be based on empathy. Sometimes the "cold" solution is the optimal one. -

Anyone who's been in a relationship with a woman can tell you that they can turn into emotional nutjobs at times. How many times have you cried in front of a woman? How many times has a woman cried in front of you? -

"cold" isn't a bad thing. See above. By cold, I mean some women will provide "active solutions... but don't get upset if she appears to downplay how you feel." Don't get too emotional over what I type! -

There is plenty of scientific evidence that women are more prone to base decisions on emotions... that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it is when considering government policy. -

Great post. One thing I would add is that many men are becoming emotional nutjobs too. Just look at some of the posters on this thread. The feminist movement has claimed the manhood of many. If we were to tally up what all of these nutjobs "deserve", we'd probably have to harvest the entire solar system for enough resources to provide it to them. "me me me me" indeed. It is the mantra of most women and lefties. But, to be fair to women, there is a small minority of cold conservative women who aren't slaves to their hormones and emotions. -
Great poll for the CPC imo. Getting 40%+ in Ontario pretty much guarantees them another majority. The economy is still very shaky, and they just pushed through a bunch of contentious bills in their first year. They still have 3 yrs to balance the budget, for the global economy to turn around, and to offer some nice tax cuts for the electorate in the final year of their term. The future looks bright in Canada.

Unless you're an evil 1%er, the taxes you paid aren't doing much employing. Let's say you made a healthy $70,000. You would pay just around $15,000 in taxes in Ontario. Who are you employing for $15,000? That barely covers installing a pencil sharpener these days! Nope, most people in the public sector are also employed by the evil 1%ers and corporations. Millionaires... the job creators. Say it with me now! Government doesn't give businesses money... unless they are green companies. For the hundredth time, tax breaks aren't a subsidy. Here's a short article that you and jacee could perhaps read to finally grasp this simple concept: http://www.thefreemanonline.org/columns/perspective/perspective-tax-breaks-arent-subsidies/ He was clearly talking about domestic consumption and the fact that the economy cannot indefinitely sustain itself by borrowing/printing money to raise domestic consumption.

Sure we do (albeit we should have far fewer), but do we need them to be overpaid BAs? Hate to break it to you, but nope.
-
Who cares what they do with their paycheque, it's just tax money taken from the people who actually create wealth.
-
Accounting is on the lower end of salary scales.... What does that have to do with what I said? Most accountants are employed by the private sector, so their income actually contributes to the economy and tax revenue.. unlike most arts grads who are usually employed by the public sector.

Corporations are controlled by people, just like scientists are people. They are both susceptible to greed. People with money don't want the world to end. You think the executives and large shareholders at oil companies just want to sniff cocaine and party until the world is destroyed? These people have children too. No offence, but you just sound crazy talking about the world ending in 100 years because of evil corporations. -

Wtf is this? Is this the new scientific method? Haha come on. -
Well the obvious question to ask is, do you need a $30,000 degree to speak clearly, write, and provide general knowledge? But that is not at all what we need. The biggest driver of our economy in services is business services. Business services generally hire people with business, and accounting degrees, not BAs. The only people hiring BAs is the government which gets most of its revenue from the work of the engineers/BSc's/labourers in the primary sector, and the business/finance grads in the business services sector that finances the primary sector.

Of course they should! I mean they cause what is it now? 2% of the GHG emissions? If they took measures now, they may have reduced that to 1.9%!! Think of all the lives that could be saved from extreme weather if the people of the west voted to contribute 0.1% less to global GHG emissions!! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go fly around Europe and absorb the culture with all these sick days that I've banked!! I hope my tickets aren't too expensive given the rising cost of oil! Woo socialism!! Obama!! Change!!! -
A country with no poverty and no art & culture snobs smelling their own farts. What a wonderful world.

I wonder how many arts grads are employed by the companies in the TSX 60..
-
If we're also going to consider the benefit to the economy, then that opens a whole new can of worms. I don't have any source for this, but I would bet dollars to donuts that arts grads are significantly more likely to be working in the public sector vs private sector than are graduates of other disciplines. So we subsidize these degrees so that we can then pay them more taxpayer money to push papers around and play office. Arts degrees are a huge drain on the economy IMO.

Possible, but then his statement about multiple thousand dollars of credit card debt still doesn't make much sense. $2000 thousand dollars of credit card debt is only about $30/mo at 18%. And with most credit card companies you can just pay like $50/yr for a reduction to 12% ($20/mo interest + $4/mo annual fee). Nothing close to the $10 for 2 days that cause him to be so shocked about people carrying balances.

I didn't forget! Must have got my edit in there just in time..

But are you better off with a BA, $20k of student debt, 3+ years of your life not working FT, and a government with $40k more student debt, or with no BA? BAs have value, but not relative to the cost. It's like buying a $20 bill with a $100.
