terrorists occupy gov't office in Oregon
Derek 2.0 replied to The_Squid's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Hunters can already hunt the land........I provided you the the US Federal website.......and loggers log the land and miners mine the land, with the granting of leases handed out in Washington. The Bundy's, and many other Westerners feel said control of the land should be in the purview of local Government.......like it is in the rest of the United States. -

This isn't a city hall or school. Not in the United States, as cited, this refuge doesn't even require a permit for hunting. The Bundy clan doesn't consider occupying public land as trespassing.......how can one trespass on what they own? -

No, they are protesting that the Federal Government and not local Government has control over land use.......The Federal Government grants the leases in the Western States to energy companies that make use of fracking, so suggesting the Federal Government is the protecting the environment is a stretch..... -

I've read that too, in addition to a decades long dispute with the Federal Government over its ownership and control over land in the Western United States: Which leads to the Federal Government, as opposed to State and local Government, having the control over land management and the final say of awarding of leases for Oil/mining/logging/farming/ranching etc on said land. I doubt anyone will be killed, AFAIK, law enforcement doesn't even have a presence at the refuge. I don't see how this is anymore excessive than other protests (including ones in Canada) over land/resource usage. -

How can one trespass on public land? Occupying a Government building? Was it even locked? How is that different then a homeless person sleeping in a public park? I haven't heard anything about them hunting, do you have a source? None the less, if they are, and conforming with the hunting regulations, its perfectly legal to hunt deer, ducks, upland birds and migratory birds etc at said refuge........The US Fish and Wildlife service even advertises it a popular for hunters. -

Is threatening to use a weapon in an armed robbery, if no robbery is committed, a crime? What laws have these protesters currently broken? -

Or the Black Panthers that marched armed across US cities in protest of Mike Brown's death...... -
No, the lack of training of police officers in the United States results in a great many being shmucks with guns and badges. And of course, the majority of concealed carry holders, to obtain their permits, require training provided by local law enforcement. So? More Americans are killed each year with blunt objects than rifles, and the majority of gun crime in the United States is committed with handguns, namely cheapo "Saturday Night Specials" and former police firearms (wheelguns) sold publicly. Sure they do, but how many plain clothes officers are killed each year by other officers in a shootout due to confusion? Nice attempt at projecting my beliefs, but no. I feel citizens should have the same legal rights to protection of their person (and families) as we afford to the protection of insured paper money.

And are in the middle of nowhere....yeah waiting them out, or ignoring them, is the prudent move -

I'm stating that the overbearing use of force used in Ruby Ridge and Waco led a disturbed man (with the help of several others) to blow up a Federal building 20 years ago. How are you going to "break up their groups" when their members and supporters inundate your Federal/State/County law enforcement agencies and State and Federal military? -

Sure, without a doubt. -
Texas penal code: Not the slightest, the teen that plays at mischief on other people's land is gambling with his or her own life......Darwinism, and if their addiction to air is suddenly stopped, it shouldn't come as a surprise.

Political power grows out the barrel of a gun...........a tenant understood by Marxists over a century ago, but not understood by the Marxists of Occupy today........hence why they failed in the end. This group clearly understands the notion (likewise the Federal Government) and was able to translate actions into results during the Bundy cattle standoff, and I don't doubt they will do it yet again or at the very least be "allowed" to leave on their terms. -

Good question, I wonder if its "fear" brought about by the "lack of response" from the US Government. -

One major difference between this group and "Occupy", is that through the use of similar tactics during the Bundy cattle removal, the Federal Government ended up folding, resulting in a protester "win"........I expect the Federal Government to either wait them out or fold yet again......... A point worth pondering, why is it, unlike Waco or Ruby Ridge, the US Federal Government has already folded to this group, and why it is they will do so yet again....... -

Where have I said different? I disagree with much of their dogma, but I never suggested they were terrorists. No, their protest is over land rights/control, coupled with a federal Government that recharged two convicted people for the same crime that they had already served punishment for. Why should the Government "go and remove" the Oregon protesters? I would think a more prudent approach for the US Federal Government would be along the lines of how Occupy was dealt with or how the Canadian Federal Government, as opposed to the Quebec Government, dealt with Oka.....namely wait them out unless they pose a threat to public safety. Where have I offered my opinion on the merits of their protest versus their conduct of their protest? I've yet to hear of this group protesting the Justice Departments sentencing of these two men, by liberating cartons of Kool menthols, malt liquor and by torching storefronts and parked cars in a major city or town. -

Where did they threaten terrorism? How likely is it though that a militant group of armed minorities in the United States, inspired by a Muslim cleric (that was assassinated), would protest with "armed assault rifles" on Government property............could never happen........ -

Yes indeed, because its not like we've ever seen an armed standoff born out of a protest, resulting in the death of a police officer, started over the development of a golf course..........not in Canada link -

I'd would assume the vast majority weren't........but then they were "allowed" to "Occupy" public land, for the most part in the centers of cities, for months. Are you suggesting this peaceful protest in the remote shrublands of Oregon shouldn't be allowed to continue because a number of said protesters are exercising their 2nd Amendment Right? -

Exactly, hence likening this protest to that of a terror attack is absurd. -

What law(s) has this protest broken? As noted in the link from the OP State/local police didn't even come by the protest for the first day........that would indicate that law enforcement isn't too concerned about public safety with this protest.
