  1. Yet, neither the Liberals or NDP would.........nor any past, postwar, PC or Liberal Governments...........And of course, allowing the shipbuilding industry to wither, would drastically reduce our ability to conduct major repairs and upgrades, putting our armed forces at a strategic disadvantage.
  2. That’s not their intent, nor the purview of the Navy.
  3. Indeed..........it appears very expensive to build ships in a country without a viable shipbuilding industry..........perhaps they should outsource them.
  4. So the North Koreans have the greatest capability to pay for their military? Not in the quoted passage.
  5. 6-8 "small ones" guarantees a minimum of two ships constantly operational, versus one of the three “large ones” in constant operation.
  6. How would the NDP have sped up procurement?
  7. Are you suggesting that the transformation of the shipyards on each coast won’t result in new ships?
  8. No you haven’t…...why is it used as a reflection on the inherent capability of a nation’s military? North Korea spends a far greater percent of their GDP (likewise the Soviets during the cold war) on their military than the United States……….does that mean the North Koreans have a more effective military? I fail to see what this has to do with the quoted passage.
  9. Sure………I also understand the lead time associated with procurement.
  10. Waldo, why the concern……surely Trudeau’s handlers vetted him and looked in the back of the closet for that funny smell!!!!
  11. We shall see.........As I said, if true, it could be the political “Hail Mary” the NDP are counting on……..I suppose we’ll see in the coming months, fore if the muck bomb does explode, we’ll all know it………just remember where you heard the muck first bubble!!!
  12. So ~5% of engines were found to be problematic, P&W and the F-35 program office are testing a solution, and it will be paid for by P&W………… I thought you were going to lean on this: and
  13. As I’ve alluded to, this apparent muck landed in the Orange tent……….I certainly wouldn’t libel anyone sans proof of course, but if proven true, both the Orange and Blue tents will certainly capitalize, and Trudeau will prove to be the Grits undoing……….Brison in 2019 perhaps?
  14. I stay out of the gutter so far as to keep the muck off my hands and clothes………… …..The F-35, what of it?
  15. There's a time and a place of course!!!
  16. I’ve made my politics quite clear………..there should be no surprise there.
  17. I wouldn't want to steal the NDP's thunder.......
  18. I would be very surprised if there are any Tory attacks directed at the NDP this early………That will be dependent upon the landscape come late next summer…….. Your point on being able to attack the Liberals once they release their policy, the portions that borrow upon the NDP platform that is, in my view is spot on. Also, there will be time to actually cost the NDP’s platform, before and after next year’s budget, and will either lend creditability or ridicule to their platform. This in my view, based on the rough draft from their policy convention, will be the Liberals Achilles heel with their platform……….unless of course they plan to introduce a myriad of taxes and/or going into the red. Or its going to be unaffordable sunshine, that the media and NDP/PCs won’t be able to cost within two weeks………. The Federal Tories platform, from what I’ve both seen and understand, will largely be revealed during the Budget early next year……This, coupled with the NDP’s platform being released, will pressure the Liberals to release theirs or face scrutiny by the media for months until they do……….At such point, the Liberals apparent momentum will revert back to reality, and they will be forced into the tap dance between “progressive” and center-right politics………… ……….hence why I’m of the utmost confidence the Tories will return as Government next Fall……….As to the fight for Stornoway, well that might be the interesting race to watch.
  19. I agree........It’s very strategic, and I think designed to put pressure on Trudeau more so since the NDP and Tories won’t be vying for the same type of voter……..But it also gives the Liberals a whole year to steal the NDP’s platform.....This coupled with some muckraking, I’ve heard the NDP has come across, on Trudeau’s past……..If true, it would be fitting retribution for Jack’s massage, and could very well end Trudeau’s political career (and marriage)
  20. Not sure if this has been mentioned in another thread, but Waldo and I did speak about party platforms..... Will this pressure Harper and Trudeau to do the same?
  21. Yes, their increase is reflected by recent equipment purchases, and their expenditures will increase as they order further big ticketed items over the next few years……of course this is also true of Canada when we do the like.
  22. Nor have you explained why percent of GDP is a viable and all encompassing measure of a nations armed forces.... To contrast Canada and Australia, one need only look at their contributions to the war in Afghanistan and Iraq (for the Aussies), coupled with a precursory glance at each nations OrBats.
  23. As demonstrated in the previous article, starting production next fall.
  24. Better put, pork for Canadian shipbuilders as a whole.........Irving-Davie-Seaspan, all the same.
  25. In many cases yes, a proven piece of military equipment could be procured from the United States or Germany for example, but a given Government will require said piece of equipment is procured domestically……..cost and effectiveness be damned!! In other cases, when no domestic product exists, the Government will determine the winner by which foreign producer will “invest” the most in Canadian largess via "industrial off-sets".
