  1. Unfortunately, I’m not amongst the lucky few with a 12.2 licence, so as disqualifying ownership of submachine guns.
  2. It certainly can, but when one considers the majority of firearms are no longer registered, the feasibility of bringing back another long-gun registry, both on cost and compliance, is a non-starter politically……As such, the two plausible political parties that could form Government having no intentions of doing so……. ……unless of course a hypothetical future Liberal minority Government was propped up by the NDP…….If that came to fruition, expect sales of shovels and 4” PVC pipe to skyrocket!!! .......
  3. That’s exactly right………Firearms owners are very much a part of the Tories grassroots....As to the NDP, without a doubt, they would require a licence to throw rocks……But the Liberals did vote down a resolution at their policy convention to bring about further gun control…….I’ll withhold final judgement until the new “Common Sense” legislation is tabled this fall in its final form, so as to hear an official LPC response………. I fully intend to legally hunt Moose in the 2015 season with my ArmaLite Rifle model #10
  4. Both are members of the org.......As to his intent, I honestly don`t know, but the result is clear........gun owners will support the Tories, and gun control advocates won't...
  5. The “No Compromise” logo came about several weeks after the reclassifications earlier this year……..I’m certain you remember the tin-foil hat nonsense after High River, largely propagated by them and Sun News…….As to deregulation, that has been their intent since Bill C-68 nearly 20 years ago.....As I said, if you have social media, a glance of their Facebook & Twitter feeds is all that is required. If you recall, their proclamation after the Moncton shootings, they made their intent quite clear………No need for BS, I’m certainly forthright on my stance towards firearms and political advocacy of the subject, likewise my membership with such organizations.
  6. Their intent (deregulation) and my description is quite easily confirmed by gleaming any of their mention in the MSM or their social media activity…………As to my own “list”, some of what they call for I certainly do agree with, other key areas not so much…..For instance, I’m sure you recall our previous discussion in the “High River Gun-Grab” thread last year… Also, both the Swiss Arms and CZ 858 rifles were predominantly non-restricted rifles (with a small number with shorter barrels being restricted), receiving their classification and FRT# under the Chrétien Government. Their intent is deregulation to the point of jurisdictions like Alaska and Texas not even recognizing, which would certainly never be palatable to any Canadian Government/political party………What is ironic, they previously graded Peter Mackay with an “F” rating for gun rights support over past, previous comments suggesting firearms licencing was a positive contrast between us and the Americans..... They rally against the Harper Conservatives nearly as much as the other parties, with a large percent of their (few) members favouring the Libertarians or other such fringe parties…….and funny enough, consider having a disabled veteran offer the Justice Minister a sweater and lapel pin, and his adornment of it, quite the coup.
  7. Thought I’d add a group email I received the other day from the CSSA on the same topic as the NFA's "No Compromise" meme, as a contrast between the two groups: As I said before, the CSSA is the group that has the ear of the CPC, and along with party membership, is where the Conservatives Firearms Policy derives from…… * A copy of the letter should be posted in the next couple of days here.
  8. Your assumption is skewed though, firearms owners are a key part of the Tory base, and it can be suggested, those in favour of draconian gun control laws probably wouldn’t be voting Conservative next year anyway.
  9. The tabling of the Common Sense Firearms Act (with ongoing amendments) this Fall, coupled with several Private Member’s Bills, should give you some sort of indication in the months ahead.
  10. I expect the opposite........Gun owners are a large voting block and source of financial contributions to the CPC, which faced a prolonged pause in donations after the reclassifications of several firearms earlier this year……..
  11. The NFA’s “No Compromise” campaign was born out of the reclassifications of the Swiss Arms and CZ 858 rifles, coupled with the ongoing inquiry into the famed “High River Gun-Grab”……..it has since morphed into the theme for the scrapping of the current Firearms Act, a cause championed by the NFA. The distancing is only natural, the NFA wasn’t invited to the announcement of the Common Sense Firearms Act, with the current Government favouring the more moderate (and effective) gun advocacy group, the CSSA…….which is at odds with the NFA over their differing approaches to firearms legislation.
  12. Missed this earlier……..Yes indeed, both the Justice(Mackay) and Public Safety(Blaney) ministers are in campaign and fund raising mode, ahead of new firearms legislation being tabled this fall (with Royal Assent expected in ~March 2015)…………. Odd that the Liberal Party of Canada has been rather mute on the subject, especially no mention on the new legislation……….Then again, back in February the Liberals voted down a new policy resolution on gun control:
  13. I certainly understand what you are saying, but if in this case, the range had a .22lr conversion for their select fire firearms used by new shooters, there would be no concern with these rare type of accidents happening……. An Uzi chambered in .22lr would have a felt recoil only slightly greater than a hairdryer……… As to the political “left”, your failing in this regard is thinking that giving them anything will suffice….don’t waste your time, and buy cheap & stack deep!!!
  14. The owners.........a business can purchase 2014 taxi and depreciate its value with use……..Nobody can purchase a new automatic firearm. I doubt it........22lr wouldn't have anywhere near the same amount of recoil and muzzle rise.
  15. There are only a finite number of Class III firearms within the United States....Installing permanent mods would detract from the value………..Whereas installing a rimfire kit wouldn’t detract from the value of the firearm (they're easy to install/remove), well also making the firearm more manageable and safer for new shooters.
  16. I have no idea.......
  17. But it does.........there are far too many teachers turned out in the Province, hence why most don't get full time teaching spots into there 30s, and fulltime contracts until 7-10 years teaching full time...... There are plenty of higher paying teaching jobs in Alberta or remote Northern communities....
  18. I was taught, and in turn my children, that a firearm, skillsaw and car etc could be dangerous to oneself or others if the operator was irresponsible…… I feel a child taught to avoid these items will either develop an irrational fear or gain a potentially dangerous curiosity of the object……..On the inverse, firsthand knowledge diminishes any fears or curiosity.
  19. I don‘t think an effective tether is feasible, especially on a ~$10K firearm………But a .22lr conversion kit would be prudent for inexperienced shooters in such a setting.
  20. I never said they were good........and of course, the glut of new teachers factors into supply side economics.
  21. Look at the history of the BCTF, not only under the current Liberal Government, but also the NDP and Social Credit.......they are a very militant union.
  22. Its certainly dependant on the maturity of the child and the level of supervision by a responsible adult………..Cub Scouts in Canada had (not sure if still in place) shooting sports programs, likewise the various cadet programs, catered to the safe operation of firearms…….Likewise, many children today go hunting etc. I taught my children at a youngish age (~7-9 years of age) and have had no negative issues with character development, and would opine that teaching them at such an age ingrained a measure of responsibility and respect, coupled with the demystifying of firearms.
  23. They have managed deals with other public service unions.......including school support staff in CUPE.
  24. Not likely, and not in Arizona.
  25. Waldo, what is so wrong in “perpetrating” the safe operation of firearms?
