And said reports could also include echos among buildings.
-
.....And yet, "terror tourists" have been arrested by the British, French, Dutch, Americans etc...........Revoking passports, and in turn the ease of international travel, has never been suggested as a solution in and of itself.
-
So, in effect, the status quo........
-
Then why do said groups have overseas training camps, and in turn, people going to them to learn how to fight and export terror? This is hardly a new concept..........The British, French, Spanish, West Germans etc have been revoking passports form suspected terrorists for decades.....
-
I would think that obvious.........said calls will be reported by the media, in turn a media drummed up panic among the populace will lead to political parties heeding the calls for further resources and changes to current laws, those parties that don't, will be labelled soft on terrorism......
-
One of the officers witnessed the attack, and as reported, Rouleau, well being chased by the police, contacted the 911 dispatcher confirming his motives and guilt........
-
Do/did any of those Ukrainians or Russians pose a threat to Canadians? On the inverse, many of the radical communists that left Canada to fight in the Spanish civil war were monitored for decades by the RCMP.......clearly such things should be viewed on a case by case basis.
-
In this case, and as reported, a number of passports have been revoked prior to them leaving the country............again, as mentioned, such measures didn't prevent this case, but in a case like the Boston bombings as speculated or members of the PIRA, some travel overseas to expand their ability to conduct such attacks on their return home.
-
By preventing said person of interest from going overseas, we increase the difficulty of the RCMP to further investigate?
-
Yet law enforcement is calling for both additional legal powers and resources..... No different than Ebola, mass shootings, childhood obesity etc etc.....
-
Does the RCMP have a working relationship with law enforcement in ISIS controlled areas of Iraq or Syria?
-
I would assume the RCMP's ability to investigate a suspect is diminished once they're in the hinterland of Syria or Iraq.....
-
How would one prove a suspect, that traveled overseas was involved directly with "terrorism" so as to charge them on their return?
-
So, in effect, ignore it and continue on as currently.......Politically, I don't think any of the mainstream parties will be able to do such as you suggest.
-
In this case, little to nothing........but, could prevent (as mentioned by Argus) others from going overseas and receiving training in bomb making etc, then returning.
-
So, in your view, what would be a reasonable response? Change/alter/remove/strengthen laws to aid the likes of the CSIS/RCMP/CBSA etc in surveilling and prosecuting such threats, or would you prefer rounding up all such suspects with the army as done by a previous Liberal Government? Or somewhere in between? Sure, but by the same token, such new laws put in place (revoking passports & citizenship) were opposed by the Trudeau Liberals several months ago........I think all parties will stake out a political vantage point with this. For the Tories, the only political "advantage" would be gained by the Liberals and NDP opposing such measures, well the Canadian public favors them........
-
A good point........ie one of the Boston bombers that was being investigated.
-
I agree somewhat with your sentiments, but also understand to an extent, as a responsible nation, would shouldn't allow our own problems to become another nations problems........this and the possibility that revoking some of these passports might force a rethink of some, or prevent a suspected terrorist leaving Canada and hurting any potential investigation intent upon finding any "friends" within Canada.......

What term would you apply to such organizations? As to an increase in such groups, I'm not certain that's indeed true, but I would say (if it is) the nature of said groups has changed versus those from several decades ago. I don't know if this is indeed a case of a new Canadian or homegrown, but clearly encompassing a dogma that is found worldwide........ The question now is the result of this..........Patriot Act or "Just watch me"........or do we KBO as is?
-
Yet, it was a suggested method from ISIS: And by method:
-
Its a common, yet effective tactic.......going after heavily protected leadership is far more difficult then unprotected members of the military. The PIRA attacks (and threats) resulted in rules limiting members of the British military from wearing their uniforms off-base, doubly so with members of the SAS, with names and faces redacted from official documents and pictures, family members living at different bases and restrictions in place limiting off base travel of members (of the SAS).

Stephen Harper taking away door to door postal service
Derek 2.0 replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How have elderly and disabled Canadians, living in rural areas, received their mail for decades? I think the only idiocy is suggesting that a small portion of Canadians being put out by having to get their mail down the street is reason enough to keep home delivery. -
Of course you don't, a terrorist act, as defined by the criminal code: That of course is yet to be determined with this case, but from the evidence in the public sphere it does at the very least suggest his motivations could be partially tied to radical Islam......I'm sure his mental state will be determined, to a degree, as the investigation continues.

Nuclear fusion: Closer than we think?
Derek 2.0 replied to a topic in Health, Science and Technology
Indeed, brings the prospects of a truly functional railgun closer, perhaps even directed energy/plasma weapons someday. I've read, years ago, that fusion propulsion would make travel to Mars or Jupiter's moons measured in weeks/months as opposed to years....it would seem, at such a point, permanent settlements would be feasible........it's very interesting, I hope it pans out.
