  1. And West Vancouver Police, like several other municipal forces in BC (Like Port Moody, Delta, Central Saanich and Oak Bay) are rather smaller forces when compared to large cities like Surrey, Coquitlam, Burnaby, Richmond and North Van that all have RCMP policing...........The Esquimalt police force (until it merged with Victoria PD) also provided fire services in the community, but was dwarfed by both the base MP detachment and base fire departments, which supported the local community.......likewise Base personal provide Bomb Squads & divers to Greater Victoria police services... None the less, it looks like various MP's are signalling that they would like to return to the House tomorrow........I suppose we'll know more once the Prime Minister speaks...
  2. Not too many mountains within the City of Vancouver.........In BC the vast majority of communities, from small villages to some of the bigger cities, are policed by the RCMP.....With Vancouver proper, the cities surrounding it, North Vancouver, Richmond and Burnaby are policed by the RCMP, in addition the Endowment Lands (what UBC is on within Vancouver) and the strip of the Trans Canada that goes through Vancouver, both have RCMP detachments........
  3. And Whistler and Richmond, which have policing provided by the RCMP...........
  4. Then why did you state: The RCMP are local police, that were supported by various other Peace Officers, from numerous other forces, including members of the Military Police.
  5. The RCMP are local police in BC and provide local policing in the majority of communities that held venues.........We don't have a Provincial Force.
  6. Alleged shooter named:
  7. Are you suggesting: is wrong? None the less you stated: Which is incorrect based in relation to the Criminal Code affording them the rights of a Peace Officer.
  8. Or in conjunction with local law enforcement.......ie DFO, prison guards etc aiding local police during the 2010 Winter Games....
  9. Linked (on the same page) to: Clearly, as stated and contended by yourself several pages back, Military Police are afforded greater powers then regular citizens.
  10. From their own site:
  11. Sure, and the region (here) is home to a large military base(s) encompassing several communities............
  12. Sorry, but that's not the case........they have the same powers of arrest/detainment as regular police off base, as I've said that will directly be related to proximity to a base. Here (Greater Victoria) for example they set-up regular speed traps, in partnership with local RCMP along the Old Island Hwy......If a person Pulled over/detained isn't a member of the Canadian Forces, they are then turned over to local police......... Anecdotal example, last summer my idiot nephew was pulled over by MPs for playing a musical horn on the local hwy, roughly ~10-15kms from the Belmont PMQs, and was detained roadside for nearly an hour until local RCMP arrived and issued him a warning.
  13. Military Police can and do regularly pull over speeders, people on cellphones, suspected drunks etc off base, on public roads.....perhaps your exposure is limited by geography in relation to a Canadian Forces Base.
  14. Exactly.....I'm sure it will take time for them to sort through this, and in turn the media and us.
  15. It sounds like they don't know........but appears the reports of other shootings around Ottawa have been retracted.
  16. That is very true, outside of Combat Arms, Force Protection and Military Police, after basic, the majority of members receive very little firearms training and continued instruction.
  17. There were two members present.......
  18. Outside of base security/force protection, Canadian Forces members, at home, are highly regulated in the issuance of weapons, on and off base.
  19. But unlike "any citizen", military police are afforded the same powers as civilian peace officers.
  20. Mostly, but Military Police can detain citizens off-base, with the expectation they will be turned over to local police..........Of course, the military can legally be used to support civilian LEO via the Emergencies Act.
  21. The same was done, pre 9/11, during the First Gulf War........Or by the British military throughout the 70s and 80s (during the Troubles)
  22. I'm sure his intent is that he hopes they keep targeting "harder targets" like DND & Government, versus softer targets like schools, shopping centers, movie theaters etc....
  23. For sure, but hijacking airliners or setting off truck bombs, versus what is currently happening, will result in the same response........In essence, they receive a higher return on invested effort with attacks like these.
