Then the FBI should have no problem going before a judge with evidence to prove said suspects pose a threat to the public............ -

No, any Federal court will do......better not get caught smoking grass, tweeting the wrong thing or sharing a name with a terrorist.......could get put on a list. -

He wasn't, but he was communicating with terror suspects the FBI is investigating.......his wife was here on a marriage Visa. -

The reason why the Republicans voted down a proposed law that would allow the State to take away a citizens inalienable rights because they were put on a list.......a process that doesn't involve due process.......how many Americans are on the "no fly list"? Do they get a letter sent out from the FBI? Is there a process to clear their name? How many don't have any idea they are on said list? -
Hence my point several posts back.........

So within a decade, suspected terrorists have bought upwards of 2000 firearms.........in a country with 300 million firearms.......perspective. How many of said legal purchases by suspected terrorists have been used in actual terror/criminal acts? -
I think you don't understand the concept of leverage.........as in a Government committed to building warships with Irving doesn't have any.

No, I'm opposed to creating laws that allow a policing agency to take away rights by putting a person on a list.......of the "no fly list" how many are actually Americans? (A non-American citizen or permanent resident can't lawfully purchase firearms or ammo in the United States). -

Right, and so is taking away the 2nd Amendment rights of Americans....... -
It doesn't mater.....if they say they will need double the amount of money, for x numbers of ships with a y level of capability, the Government has zero leverage against Irving.......other than threatening to go elsewhere or cancel the program...........hence the Government can choose to: 1 . add more money 2 . accept less vessels 3 . reduce the capability of said ships Or any mix of the three........ On paper, with Irving doubling the production costs (as opposed to the budgeted portion associated with weapons, electronics, sensors etc and support/training), the actual steel bashing, we have very few options.......... The Government can submit to Irving (as outlined) or tell them to shove it........and Irving knows it.

Why not? The better question, if a terror suspect is banned from flying based on evidence the US Government has.......why are they on the streets? -
No, the shipbuilder is saying we will need to double our budget, or accept lesser capabilities and/or ships..........the options for the Government are really simple........Irving won't agree to a contract that would cost them money.

Right, the attacker's wife didn't declare her allegiance to the NRA during the attacks............mental health and upset youth aside, in this example, I'd look to the intelligence failures, as its been reported, the FBI was investigating several subjects the attacker was in contact with online......but didn't follow-up on the attacker himself. -
It doesn't mater...........if you go to Canadian Tire to buy some winter tires and you think their price is unfair, your options are?

F-35 Purchase Cancelled; CF-18 replacement process begins
Derek 2.0 replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sure, why not? Most of the cited concerns were logistic related, any operational squadron will have its own logistic tail. And no, I don't feel the IOP was propaganda, but proof of concept.......suggesting the the F-35B wasn't operational before it was declared operational is hardly a condemnation.....................and "cargo planes" (COD/ carrier onboard delivery) are a regular part of all US naval deployments, with a continuing requirement for the current COD's replacement to be able to deliver an entire crated aircraft engine if required..........the use of a V-22 Osprey COD aboard a LHD like the Wasp is a first in its own right. Well months later.......none the less, aircraft from a test group wouldn't be considered operational, versus an entire operational squadron...........I suppose we'll find out if the Marines are bull jiving when the next report comes out in the Spring.... With LRIP aircraft......versus full rate production in the 2020s....... They will or they will loose capabilities without replacement for their armed forces. -
Huh? The RCN requires 15 vessels, Irving says the money budgeted will only allow for half that number........our options are very clear and could be counted on one hand.

F-35 Purchase Cancelled; CF-18 replacement process begins
Derek 2.0 replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You realize said report, released in April of this year, is covering the 2014 fiscal year.........and the Marines didn't declare their first squadron operational until this past Summer? One thing from the report worth noting: Is that to suggest 65 aircraft would require between $7 and $8 billion (USD) in 2022....... -
So the Government is going to dictate how much Irving can charge us?

Maybe, but at the end of the day, the kibosh was given by the US Government...........I never knew of the Indonesian angle, but with their defense relationship with the Russians, I can't say I'm surprised.... -
Huh? We either have enough money and Irving is grifting us, or we don't have enough money, and we'll either need more or accept less capability/ships......seems pretty straight forward, I don't know what another bureaucrat is going to do with a report every 2 1/2 months.

They're hardly spurious, they demonstrate despite gun laws criminals still get firearms.......In the case of the French attackers, obtaining their guns from the Eastern Europe black market.....in California, from what I've seen in the media, they purchased their firearms from a store several blocks away from where they lived......and removed the famed California bullet button.......going forward still, the point is mooted with the advent of 3D technology, which allows anyone with a printer to make their own (notice where this crime was committed).......including AR-15s. In this example though, I feel a far larger death toll was avoided by simple luck, in that the attacker screwed up the wiring on his IED, which if detonated when the crowds were rushing out as LEO were rushing in could have been devastating.
