fellowtraveller Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 As I recall, PM Martin promised to place $1.3 million in a trust fund of some sort, as some kind of 'without prejudice' acknowledgement of his Partys complicity in stealing far more than that from all of us. Anybody have any idea if that actually happened, given the desperate state of Liberal finances? Or was this just a pre-campaign promise? Is it normal in a free society for a criminal to select their own punishment? Quote The government should do something.
Michael Bluth Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 Very valid questions. I don't recall ever seeing that money ever actually being paid back. I think it was a great gesture if they did it. If they didn't, well that revelation can wait for the campaign trail. At the same % of popularity as the Conservatives, it seems Liberals voters are still supporting them through thick and thin. Why hasn't the media pushed the payback of the Adscam money? Could make for some interesting news stories. Quote "Any man under 30 who is not a liberal has no heart, and any man over 30 who is not a conservative has no brains." — Winston Churchill

But why bother with it at this point? Quote No one has ever defeated the Liberals with a divided conservative family. - Hon. Jim Prentice

But why bother with it at this point? Maybe this should be a new thread about the media. My biggest beef with the media has always been their lack of answering the questions the readers or viewers want answers to. For example, with all the shootings going on in the country I want to know if the guns the arrested individuals use are illegal, stolen or registered. That never seems to be mentioned. The media seems derelict in giving full answers in a lot of stories. They answer the questions they feel are important. Any talk of giving people what they want gets twisted into the corporatization of media and who the media should 'answer to'. I don't really think there will be much in the way of legs to re-opening this story. The Liberals still held onto 30% of their vote in 2006. Liberal apologists brayed that it was *only* $1.14 Million dollars of taxpayer money that was stolen. Have the Liberals paid back the money? If not, will they? Doubtful. It's not to their political advantage to do so. So why would they? Quote No one has ever defeated the Liberals with a divided conservative family. - Hon. Jim Prentice

Much like most political "easy to make" promises.......actions really do speak louder than words, and that's where the "trust" part comes in.
