M.Dancer Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 “There is a group of soldiers from the Royal 22nd with us today who will represent Canada abroad. They were greeted by most of the Members of the National Assembly, except for an important group from the second opposition party who remained seated,” Mr. Couillard noted. The PQ demanded that Mr. Couillard withdraw his comments in the midst of a heated debate in which party House Leader Diane Lemieux accused the minister of lying and acting disgracefully. “There are people here who are personal friends of soldiers in Afghanistan or elsewhere. You can't determine what the MNAs are thinking because they are either sitting or standing,” Ms. Lemieux said. When the motion supporting the troops was presented later, Action Démocratique du Québec member Robert Deschamps was absent, as was PQ member Camil Bouchard and a few of his colleagues. Another PQ MNA, Maxime Arseneau, voted for the motion, but remained seated as others stood to applaud the visiting officers who were still in the gallery. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home Actions speak louder than words. capricorn Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Opposing the war is no excuse for the lack of respect shown by the PQ to soldiers from their own province about to leave for Afghanistan. No class. I wonder how many of them will join anti-war protesters in a march on June 22 just as the Van Doos gather to say farewell to friends and family.
