Journalists dole out cash to politicians

Does this mean that there could be a bias towards a particular politician or an issue which would reflect in their reporting ? Say it isn't so.

Journalists dole out cash to politicians (quietly)

In addition to giving $500 to Democratic congressional candidate Jim Esch, Omaha TV reporter Calvert Collins posted a photo of the two of them on her Facebook page, saying, "Vote for him Tuesday, Nov. 7!" She says her father wrote the check, and she was just building rapport with candidates.

A junior editor at Dow Jones Newswires gave $1,036 to the liberal group MoveOn.org and keeps a blog listing "people I don't like," starting with George Bush, Pat Robertson, the Christian Coalition, the NRA and corporate America ("these are the people who are really in charge").

Journalists have political leanings. What is important for editors is that like business journalists, who are under pressure to disclose whose stocks they own, political journalists should not cover areas that they are involed in politically.

I would doubt though that any senior political journo would publicly (or privately) admit to supporting, belong to or donate to any party of candidate.

I friend of mine who is a senior editor of a national news org known as a supporter of the conservative side has been quite active in years past with the NDP in his riding. The caveat there is he is not a political editor. The humourous aspect is he is a business editor.
