'Broke' May threatened to quit leadership

Green leader Elizabeth May, frustrated and "bone-weary" over her small salary, a sore hip, an exhausting schedule and internal bickering over the party's debt, warned senior party members last month she might resign if they removed her from the party's budget committee, CanWest News has learned.
"I should also add that if council decided to remove me from the budget committee, I would have a hard time staying on as leader," Ms. May wrote in the e-mail.

Will she stay or will she go?

This is my favourite part of her whine.

I'm just being honest with people. At $50,000 a year for no days off -- ever -- the amount of time I'm working?

Lots of people get by on less than $50K a year.

What part of public service does she not understand?

She comes off as so entitled it is painful.

No she doesn't deserve to earn the salary of an MP. Because she hasn't won an election.

No she doesn't deserve to be in the debates. Because her party doesn't have any MPs.

No she doesn't "get" what be the leader of a National party is all about. They all work "for no days off -- ever". That's the way it goes.

The Green Party received about 670,000 votes in the 2006 federal election which means, $1.75 per vote, they receive almost $1.2 million every year from Elections Canada in addition to any money they can raise on their own from individual donors.

And yet May is complaining about party finances and debt.

The scary thing is that these same politicians then want to run our collective finances and a government budget of billions. This explains in part why government budgets just get bigger and bigger, and governments spend more. The people who are often attracted to political power are do-gooders who are bad at math.

What a wonderful out for the Queen of Green.

She quits the Green party, becomes a Liberal and keeps trying to be a MP in Nova Scotia.

I'm sure the Libs can find her more than the pittance $50,000 the Greens are giving her.
