Topaz Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 The Labour minister said that the Cons have created 450,000 new jobs, so where are they??? Of course in ALBERTA!! but Alberta isn't all across Canada? IF there are other jobs created, then its minimum wage jobs which won't support a family! Quote
geoffrey Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 Perhaps people should get off their asses and make their own jobs. People expect things to be handed to them. Things aren't so hot in housing anymore out here, you can squeeze into an apartment for $600-1000 a month now... might not be great, but whatever, it's better than being on EI (or should I say more moral than being on EI). The rest of Canada has only themselves to blame for their current economic situation. They've chosen high tax, high subsidy methods of doing business, and they've all lost (other than BC and Saskatchewan, which are coming up... through tax cuts!). If you can't compete as a province, then business will go elsewhere. Look at Quebec for the finest example. There are plenty of jobs in Canada. If your not willing to move to another province to take one, then I think that shows that Canada truly shouldn't be a country. August1991 Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 IF there are other jobs created, then its minimum wage jobs which won't support a family!Sorry, you're wrong. The gains intensified after Statistics Canada data showed gross domestic product grew 3.7 percent on an annualized basis, up from 1.5 percent in the fourth quarter. ReutersThe economy picked up steam in the first quarter of 2007 as real gross domestic product (GDP) advanced 0.9%, more than twice the pace of last quarter. Statistics Canada The Canadian economy is generating real stuff at a remarkable pace. That means, in general, more people working and earning more money. IOW, these people are generally wrong (and instead have a political agenda): Organizers from the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), which set up the demonstration, also had tense discussions with the RCMP, who were not happy with the dozens of symbolic headstones in the "Job Loss Cemetery" set up in the shadow of the Parliament buildings to dramatize the loss of more than 250,000 jobs in the goods-producing sector in the past five years. Toronto StarI thought that we were headed for a recession a few months ago. Well, I was wrong. Quote

Canuck E Stan Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 IF there are other jobs created, then its minimum wage jobs which won't support a family! Think for a minute, for what possible reason would anybody have to take a minimum wage job? And is it the government or employer's responsibility to support the employee's family? The opportunities for better pay and better jobs lie in the worker's desire to want to advance themselves. Don't want to sacrifice your time and effort, then you get what's left over. jdobbin Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 I thought that we were headed for a recession a few months ago. Well, I was wrong. I remember you saying so a few months ago. I said I didn't see evidence of a recession but it is always wise to look for dark clouds. The consumer market in Canada has been so hot that it is actually inflationary. The Bank Governor warns of future rate hikes. This will further raise the dollar which many manufacturers are having a hard time adjusting to. Will this put further pressure on Ontario? Most definitely. Hopefully, the province will adjust to the situation and be stronger for it. Quote
August1991 Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 The opportunities for better pay and better jobs lie in the worker's desire to want to advance themselves.Exactly.The Canadian government didn't do this. It was ordinary Canadians who sought something better. An economy such as Canada's does not achieve 3.7% annual real growth because the government ordains it or through Canadians working minimum wage jobs. Last point: This growth has occurred despite a rising Canadian dollar. Quote
