I do love rick mercer.....

Speaking of the short bus I see that Jack Layton has distinguished himself on the international front by coming up with a solution for the Afghanistan situation. Jack is calling for peace talks with the Taliban. About time the NDP get back to their more loony roots. For a while there they were coming off all semi-sensible.

Rest assured if there are peace talks with the Taliban and Jack Layton The Mercer Report will be there! I've attended a lot of political events over the years and as a location I would suggest holding the talks in one of the ball rooms at the casino in Hull.

I think you might be able to smoke there and I'm guessing the Taliban would appreciate that. All the Taliban really require to have a good time is an ashtray and a few de-peopled women making sure there's a steady supply of unsafe drinking water.

Agenda for Historic Peace talks between Jack Layton and Taliban leader - room 202 Casino Du Lac Leamy, Quebec

8:00 am – Jack Layton opening comments and welcome to assembled media and Taliban representative.

8:05 am – Taliban representative walks to podium, poses for photographs with Mr. Layton.

8:06 am – Taliban representative cleaves Mr. Layton in the forehead with giant axe.

8:08 am – Peace talks end.

8:10 am – Olivia Chow says she is "encouraged by talks" – announces plan to run for leadership of NDP.

RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS

If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

The group of Taliban that President wants to talk peace with are the Taliban that were born Afghans. The other Taliban group are from Pakistan. I just can't trust this government, even though, Harper seems to. The government is corrupt, they fail to destroy the poppy produce, even being asked by Bush to do so. As far as reconstruction, I've read that the quality of construction is faulty at best and yet the contractors are walking away with the money. We are going to see another Iraq, with all fraud, secrets and torture!! We can't help the people of that country if the people don't trust the government!!!

Canadians still think it's a good idea to negotiate with Afghanistan's Taliban insurgents as a way to end the violence there, a poll finds.

In The Strategic Counsel poll conducted for CTV and The Globe and Mail, there was almost two-to-one support for the notion:

* Net good idea: 63 per cent

* Net bad idea: 32 per cent

Guess there are a lot of Taliban Jacks out there.

If by that you mean a lot of ignorant people, then yes. There are a lot of them here too.

You don't negotiate with people who go into a school, drag out little girls, and behead them for violating Allah's requirement that they not be educated.

And yet that is what Karzai said today in regards to the Taliban.

He must be pretty ignorant.
