Higgly Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 Unless, broadly speaking, it's not true (and I personally have no idea) why is it inappropriate? Well OK JBG, how about if someone were to make a general derogatory comment involving the word "Jew"? The original comment is a disgusting racist slur and I have reported it. The fact that you have no idea about it tells me you really need to go to school on First Nations Societies in Canada. That aside, I can see some sort of consititutional challenge here. The CNR can afford a lot of very good lawyers. This may put Canadian law on the road to resolving a critical conflict between two very important sets of enshrined rights. Either way, it will cost a lot on both sides to fight this. We will see to what extent the rest of Canada's First Nations Peoples stand with the defendents when it comes time to hire and pay the lawyers. I wouldn't be surprised if they have their own very good lawyers, though. I would like to know whether the CNR has had any backroom discussions with any level of government on this before launching the suit and whether there have been any promises of support from any level of government. Now that really would be a can of worms! Quote "We have seen the enemy and he is us!". Pogo (Walt Kelly).
Remiel Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 I may disapprove of their blockade, but the fact remains that for all the years I went to high school, I never found cause of any kind to think less of any of my fellow students for their native background. Deseronto may have been made the butt of more jokes than I thought was deserved, but I do not recall ever hearing anyone make any gross generalizations about our native fellows. People were just people. Quote
Posit Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Sounds like impunity without consequences. Such privileged status is utterly untenable. Nope. It's just the law. You do want to comply with the law, don't you....That same law oppresses native peoples. BTW what is a "tsi"? Quote
