jbg Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 Think of all the cash Belinda saved us by putting off that election. Perhaps if she hadn't switched sides and the Govt. had fallen, the CPC would still be the Official Opposition. Damn. Now I hate her too. Remember, that was the thick of the Sponsorship Scandal. I doubt it. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

I doubt it. There were other things during the election like the leaked RCMP investigation that ruined the liberals more than the sponsorship was hurting them. They would have kept their minority. Quote Harper differed with his party on some key policy issues; in 1995, for example, he was one of only two Reform MPs to vote in favour of federal legislation requiring owners to register their guns. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/election/bio/harper.html "You've got to remember that west of Winnipeg the ridings the Liberals hold are dominated by people who are either recent Asian immigrants or recent migrants from eastern Canada: people who live in ghettoes and who are not integrated into western Canadian society." It's conventional wisdom in Ottawa that the CPC would have lost a 2005 election. It only took you a year and a half to figure that out? Oh Ricki you are so smart and witty. gc1765 Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 What makes May 2005 different from January 2006 then? It could be a coincidence, but look at polls from December 2006. Notice the huge nosedive right around the time the RCMP announced their investigation. I'm sure there is at least some link between the two. Quote Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable. - Jeffrey Sachs (from his book "The End of Poverty")

Notice the huge nosedive right around the time the RCMP announced their investigation. I'm sure there is at least some link between the two. Take a look at them. The Liberals were hovering around 36 percent before Income Trust hit. They lost about three points in the immediate aftermath of the investigation. They drifted down to 30.2 percent on election day. Quote No one has ever defeated the Liberals with a divided conservative family. - Hon. Jim Prentice

Delayed reaction? Negative ads? Your guess is as good as mine. But I'm sure the income trust thing had at least something to do with it.
