It was all an act. The shock and horror displayed by MPs after whistle-blowers implicated RCMP brass in an alleged pension fund scandal last week was indignation faked for the cameras.

It’s incredible and inexplicable why a government under Prime Minister Stephen Harper, which wraps itself in the uniform of aggressive law and order, would vote repeatedly to deny RCMP officers access to the spotlight when they were willing to risk their careers telling the disquieting truth.

But all committee members were hand-delivered the evidence by RCMP whistle-blowers last fall, carefully indexed and the most damning evidence red-flagged, and even after they were given a preview of their testimony, MPs still stonewalled the push to bring the RCMP scandal out of the shadows.

"Every colleague I spoke to said, ‘Are you sure we want to go there? Remember, this is the RCMP’,” says Liberal MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj “At every key point when the committee voted to deal with the issue, they [Conservatives] blocked it or tried to block it.”

The second-term Etobicoke MP is credited by RCMP whiste-blowers for doggedly pursuing the file and leading the charge to secure their hearing.

Mr. Wrzesnewskyj demanded reports used by the Auditor-General be brought forward last December. His motion was rejected by all five Conservative members. He asked to take the matter behind closed doors. He was voted down again.

I have to agree with James Travers "Because at the very centre of Harper's political persona is an enigma wrapped in an illusion. This prime minister's swift growth into a demanding job is best measured not by his determination to impose preferred policies but by his willingness to break promises."

Lie, cheat, cover up.... Steve's creed seems to be that the end (his end) justifies the means. And all the good widdle doggies better bark when their chains are pulled.

Why are the other three parties on the committee any less guilty? Why didn't Borys go to the news earlier with this massive coverup.

I smell something fishy here.

Borys is a guilty as the rest of them for covering things up.

My comments stand. Why did Borys not tell the media or the House sooner?

That is his job, to hold the government to account, especially those members in committee. He failed.

Looks like Borys did his best to bring attention to this:

"Mr. Wrzesnewskyj demanded reports used by the Auditor-General be brought forward last December"

"After hearing from a number of witnesses previewing the allegations in mid-February, he put forward a motion to grant the whistle-blowers parliamentary immunity to testify."

"Finally, after submitting stacks of damning documents, including e-mails showing nine RCMP brass trying to hide their golf fees on hotel bills during a pension fund meeting, Mr. Wrzesnewskyj felt he had enough evidence to secure unanimous support to call in the whistleblowers"

"The second-term Etobicoke MP is credited by RCMP whiste-blowers for doggedly pursuing the file and leading the charge to secure their hearing."

Why would he go to the media right away? He might as well keep trying, which he did. If, after doing everything possible, he still failed, then would be the time to go to the media.

Not sure about the other members of the committee, and how they voted...but I don't see how you can blame Borys for this.

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.

He did go to the media if I recall. It was one of the reasons why there were questions being raised by papers like the Globe on the pensions.
