I am not certain that the Liberals didn't have an easy time with Harper as leader. I believe that the liberals should have been reduced to 12 seats. (I would have said 2 seats :) but that's been done before).

Something Conservatives should be very aware of.

I don't see how that could have happened. The Liberals have at least 25 seats across the country they have held consecutively for at least 30 years.

Martin entered the 2004 campaign hoping for the biggest majority in history and barely escaped with a minority.

Calling that a fault of the Conservatives is very suspect indeed.

Kim Campbell Conservatives held seats for similar lengths and lost all but 2 of them.

If you are saying the Liberals should have been reduced to 25 seats, that fine by me.

Martin called an early election. Foolishness and arrogance were going to cost them seats. However in the other thread, you only site Peterson of this foolish act.

Harper blew it in the last week. Documented fact of foot in mouth. Very very stupid.

I will call that the fault of Stephen Harper. Hiding in a trailer is not campaigning.

As for 2006 the public wanted the Liberals whacked. Harpers actions of the past continued to dominate the publics perceptions of him. They still do to this day. This has been a slow rehabilitation process. The Liberals called him scarey and he does say things that are so outrageous and stupid that it supports the Liberal Smear.

Now, what's this topic? Oh yeah, Pat Martin. :)

The Free Press in Winnipeg felt compelled to show the transcript of Martin's conversation after Martin said that he didn't suggest anything of the sort on a Liberal/NDP merger.

I don't see anything on the horizon in this regard even if the Tories win a majority in the next election. At the moment, the polls pretty much show exactly where the vote fell a year ago.

How many former NDP leaders have went to the Liberals in the last 5 years? I think a significant number. They get to hook up with Garth Turner. Like to hear them talk shop. :)

Quebec is where the next majority come from. What's the NDP poll there 1 %?

Layton is doing his best to draw some stronger candidates there but as always he gets squeezed in the federalist-nationalist dynamic. If it important to keep a BQ member out of the Commons, the voter will more likely lean towards the Liberal or Conservative candidate who has a better chance of winning.

In other words, an NDP candidate would have to have such popular support that they defied that dynamic. I don't know who in Quebec rises above all that.

Even appointing them when they don't want to put in the work to go through of earning a nomination.
