jdobbin Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Should his repentance give him an opening to run for the White House? http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/09/us/polit...r=1&oref=slogin Gingrich, who frequently campaigned on family values issues, divorced his second wife, Marianne, in 2000 after his attorneys acknowledged Gingrich's relationship with his current wife, Callista Bisek, a former congressional aide more than 20 years younger than he is.His first marriage, to his former high school geometry teacher, Jackie Battley, ended in divorce in 1981. Although Gingrich has said he doesn't remember it, Battley has said Gingrich discussed divorce terms with her while she was recuperating in the hospital from cancer surgery. What a guy. Quote
guyser Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 What a guy. Relax, he will never get the nomination. Besides, he has annouced his running partners will be either Ted Haggerty or Mark Foley. Not much chance either way. Quote

Not much chance either way. I can't believe the way the Republican party is self destructing at the moment. I do find it amazing that Focus on the Family can forgive Gingrich when they can't forgive Clinton. At least Clinton stayed married. Quote
Canadian Blue Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 I love the hypocrisy in it. Were is all of the moral outrage from Focus on the Family, even with Gingrich judging Bill Clinton while having an affair himself. It's rediculous. Are you sure about that? They have only one guy in Guiliani who might be able to distance himself from Bush but will it be enough to convince the right who are cool on the man? I still think we might see Bill Richardson become influential in the election. If he runs, it will bring in a lot of Hispanic and western vote. Quote
sharkman Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 I saw this story in the paper today, and it was from a left wing knee jerker. Newt was wrong to cheat on his wife, no 2 ways about it. It's not in the same league as slick willy, however. Bill repeatedly had sex with a subordinate while at work. In the White House office. When accused, he lied to the nation. He also lied in court, which got him disbarred. Apples and oranges. Quote

I take it you think that man is honorable enough to get elected president. Quote
GostHacked Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Bill was not impeached for having an affair with an intern. He was impeached for lying and perjury ABOUT the affair. He had an affair, big deal. If Bill had said, yes I had an affair with the woman, then things might have been different. But it the lying that got him impeached. If you want to hound on someone , maybe try Julliani for having 3 marriages. This is all stupid. I take it you think that man is honorable enough to get elected president. Yeah and Bush was 'electable' and 'honourable' please..... Every president has had issues, FFS they are human after all. So if the marriage does not affect the job performance, then big deal. Affairs and things regarding spouses should not be publicized I think. It is their personal lives that are now on public display for all to see. And we eat all of it up. How many of you hear have had an affair on your spouse? Or even a girlfriend or boyfriend. Most of you have done one or the other. I have never been married, but I have cheated on a couple girlfriends. This story should die. The Clintion sex affair should have never hit the air. There could have been mentiones about it, but the public does not need to know about the sex life of a President. Quote
stignasty Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 The right wing will continue to say that Newt's cheating with a staffer is different. More telling, I think, is that many on the right who cried bloody murder about Clinton continue to defend Scooter Libby.
