jdobbin Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...16?hub=Politics Charest's promise to boost post-secondary tuition fees, which have been frozen for years and are the lowest in the country, drew immediate criticism from one student group. The Quebec University Students Federation said Charest has "declared war'' on students by promising to lift the freeze. If Quebec lifts the freeze, it might influence other provinces like Manitoba to lift their freeze. It is probably good that he has gotten ahead of this issue prior to an election. Quote
August1991 Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 Chrest proposes to raise tuition fees by $50 per session ($100 per year) over the next five years. This is almost a cost of living adjustment. Un futur gouvernement libéral augmenterait aussi les frais de scolarité de 50 $ pour chaque session de la période de 2007 à 2012, pour une hausse totale des frais de 500 $ à la fin de la période. CPThe last student demo against a tuition raise in Montreal attracted several hundred demonstrators. Charest knows what he's doing. This is not contentious and will only make the student/Left look ridiculous when they contest it. BTW, it is Mario Dumont who is attracting attention with his Harperesque proposal to give $100 per week for each child under six. Dumont hasn't really said how he'd finance his proposal. Quote
