But he said his party unequivocally endorsed Israel's month-long bombing campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon last summer - something no other party did.

He is proud that he supported the bombing and killing of more than 1,000 people?

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.

Of course Harper will support Israel no matter what. The Jewish conservative media is his best asset for winning the next election.

And perhaps because they are defending themselves from terrorists? How about an incursion on their land by a foreign force? Not a chance at that one? Just for media? Hmm.. ok.

Defending themselves from terrorists? Doubt it. Incursion on their land by a foreign force? Do you mean Israel or Lebanon? The terrorist card may be what Harper wants to play publicly but the real reason is that the Jewish community in Canada is very powerful and influential and their support is a huge asset for any politician. Since they have traditionally supported the Liberals, Harper is trying to win them over. He has succeeded in doing that for the most part but he has to keep up his efforts because you know, people can change their minds.

Hezbollah was an out of control (still is) element operating in southern Lebanon. Lebanon has an obligation to control what leaves their land and invades others, kidnapping their troops.

I don't agree with Israel's scale or tactics, you can't win from the air against terrorists. But I do agree that they had a right to self-defense. Hezbollah is a consistant threat to their safety and Lebanon refuses to act.

If the Americans had some crazy neo-Nazi group in Montana (which they have lots of) and they walked into Canada, kidnapping a couple cops at the border... I have little doubt that you'd encourage the Canadian government to strongly insist that the Americans act. The difference between America and Lebanon is that the Americans would deal with such activity swiftly, and without much compromise. In Lebanon, the government has an uneasy truce with Hezbollah, as Hezbollah is technically stronger than the ruling state.

Can't happen that way. Every last person in Hezbollah or that supports Hezbollah is going to need to 'cease to exist' for peace to exist between Lebanon and Israel.

I'm sure the average Lebanese guy just wants to run his business (damn, they make good food), raise his family and hang out by the shore... maybe mountain bike in those fantastic hills. Same with the average Israeli. Hezbollah makes that impossible.

They hide in that average guy's neighbours house and launch rockets at civilians in Israel. It destroys both side's standard of living.

Peace and stability cannot exist between Lebanon and Israel until Hezbollah is completely destroyed. I'm sure both Lebanon as a whole and Israel want peace too, by the way... Lebanon is clearly the least radical of surrounding states.

The big question is why the government in Canada, especially a Conservative government, hasn't been more insistant on stoping the funding of suicide bombings and terrorists acts from Canada. In those protest parades you see many people waving the flag of Hezbollah. These folks need to go to jail.

Do remember that Israel offered Hezbollah an easy out... return our soliders. They didn't. Israel can't be seen as a weak power in that environment. If they issue and ultimatium, and it isn't followed, then your going to get your ass kicked.

Sadly, the invasion didn't produce the result of getting the soldier back and both Lebanon and Gaza/West Bank are running with blood as Hezbollah and Hamas try to solidify their hold.

Dion correctly said that Israel has a right to protect itself but at the moment, it is no better off than it was in the beginning.

I agree with that. If one was to say, "hey Israel, your tactics aren't making you safer," I'd listen. But most of the rhetoric is based upon these 'war crimes' and stuff like that... which is, plain silly.
