jdobbin Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16593606/ Not sure what forum this would belong to as it covers a lot of territory. This is a significant turn for Exxon. It could also possibly end the the careers of Steve Milloy and other who receive the bulk of their contributions from big oil to deny global warming. Quote
Guthrie Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 ...Exxon’s funding action was confirmed this week by its vice president for public affairs. Kenneth Cohen told the Wall Street Journal that Exxon decided in late 2005 that its 2006 nonprofit funding would not include CEI and "five or six" similar groups. Cohen declined to identify the other groups, but their names could become public this spring when Exxon releases its annual list of donations to nonprofit groups. ... well, I suppose they now realize that their denial efforts are only, 'preaching to the choir,' -- and really only the remaining dumbest members of the choir - so they, not wanting to throw good money after bad, are pulling the plug - I only wonder what contractual restrictions might keep their former paid puppets from stepping up and renouncing their previous bullroar Quote “Most middle-class whites have no idea what it feels like to be subjected to police who are routinely suspicious, rude, belligerent, and brutal” - Benjamin Spock MD

B. Max Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Once again the left are exposed in their fight against the truth and free speech. So what do you think of Exxon backing down? Are they becoming left wing? I don't think they have backed down at all. They may have decided to give the yapping seals what they've been asking for. Poverty. Quote
jdobbin Posted January 13, 2007 Author Report Posted January 13, 2007 I don't think they have backed down at all. They may have decided to give the yapping seals what they've been asking for. Poverty. Just like the cigarette companies, they haven't done a great job selling the merits of their product as a healthy choice. Quote

jdobbin Posted January 14, 2007 Author Report Posted January 14, 2007 They never claimed it was. Then probably should have shown what Big Oil was doing to reduce smog, prevent oil spills and to leave as little mark on the environment as possible. Quote
Guthrie Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Exxon sponsored these faux science efforts to obscure the truth about their profitting from the destruction of the world. Free Speech???? where is this an issue of Free Speech -- there is no government shutting these clowns down, there are no protestors standing outside their offices --- there is only Exxon, knowing that the dodge no longer works and trying to quietly close up shop on that part of their image protection effort. free speech? Canadian Blue Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Listen if people want to fight against the corporate machine, stop using corporation's. I've stopped shopping at Wal Mart because of what they have done, and their treatment of employees. If you want to fight against something, why not spread some information, boycott the place, etc. Quote "Keep your government hands off my medicare!" - GOP activist
Guthrie Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 except, there is no issue of free speech in Exxon cutting the funding of pollution apologists and boycotting gasoline, in this day and age, is like boycotting electricity --- what kind of moron would even conceive of such a thing Quote “Most middle-class whites have no idea what it feels like to be subjected to police who are routinely suspicious, rude, belligerent, and brutal” - Benjamin Spock MD

I'd think a boycott would be the best way to address an issue, or through use of information. They have proven successful in the past. Hold on I can think of other people who have used boycott's... Martin Luther King United Farm Workers Boycott of slave produced products in 1830 Boycott of South Africa Boycott of Altace Quote "Keep your government hands off my medicare!" - GOP activist
Guthrie Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 a boycott only works when there is an alternative are you proposing that, instead of bread trucks, industrial bakeries deliver to grocery stores on fleets of bicycles?? Canadian Blue Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 are you proposing that, instead of bread trucks, industrial bakeries deliver to grocery stores on fleets of bicycles?? No, I'm saying stop using your car, use alternative modes of transportation. This will cause the oil companies to lose alot of profit, as well as putting pressure on them to become more ethical. are you proposing that, instead of bread trucks, industrial bakeries deliver to grocery stores on fleets of bicycles?? How about hydrogen vehicles... Once again, simple minds can rarely come up with any viable solution's to a problem. All you have done so far is rant and rave about Exxon, however didn't provide any solution's as to how to combat the problem's Exxon has created. As for bread, make your own bread, it's not all that difficult people have been doing it for centuries. Quote "Keep your government hands off my medicare!" - GOP activist
Guthrie Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 it was Exxon who pulled the plug on those clowns who defend pollution -- rant? I don't rant, I present facts --- and for some reason, you've decided to leech on to me as if I was your personal project for this years fascist camp hydrogen vehicles? how many of them are on YOUR block? more to the point, how many hydrogen fueled bread trucks are there? I'm betting you've never actually been involved in a boycott. pathetic Quote “Most middle-class whites have no idea what it feels like to be subjected to police who are routinely suspicious, rude, belligerent, and brutal” - Benjamin Spock MD
