I guess anyone like Khan, who wants to serves Canada first, before their party is a self righteous hack.

That group will include a lot of Canadians.

I would be proud Canadian to be a member of that group.

The same attitude of standing up together as Americans didn't serve the United States well in Iraq. With everyone tripping over themselves to be 100% behind the war, no one stopped to ask what the problems might be.

Official opposition is serving Canadians.

Khan approached Harper. Harper made the announcement before Graham even heard about it. It's all in the link that I already put up there.

Khan can now serve Canadians as Harper's adviser and not worry about the Liberal party. It remains to be seen whether his riding agrees with him over this decision.

Dion had no choice but to ask where Khan stood.

Khan also said he would offer his advice to Dion on the same matters.

Dion never replied to Khan.

Why?, maybe it was his solar cell phone not being charged?

Maybe he didn't want advice from someone who knew more about Afghanistan than he did and really didn't want to hear it.

Whatever the reason, the Liberals lost a seaat and someone who could have contributed greatly to the party and help in a renewal of a party, that hasn't really changed from the same old, same old.

Oh man. Another signature for the books. What a great post. We should have an archive of some of these classic lines.

Hey, I am new to this forum, but not to politics. I hope my insite will be worth while:

Thats true, but if Dion had honestly looked for Khan's input, I am sure Khan would have stayed with the party. He started with the Liberals (federally) and obviously sympathizes with them, on a few issues at least.

I think he was also looking for a way up on the political scene. He could have remained a backbencher who was knowledgable about a major Canadian issue. But instead he used his knowledge to his advantage. Put his name out to the two main leaders in Canada and took the possition that looked the best.

I think this move was majorly in his own interest. If you applied for two jobs, and you started at one, but hte second offered you 'better hours and higher wages' (figuratively speaking), which would you choose, the place you started at first, or the one that is going to support and appreciate you more.

He approached the prime minister without informing the Liberal leader at the time. This was in his own interest. I've seen no evidence that he offered his service to Bill Graham when he was leader.

Welcome to the forums.

Ahhh the old Liberal strategy automatically equate anything and everything a Canadian Conservative dows with the Republican party.

Is this the new Liberal strategy since *scary* *scary* *scary*quit working?

Speaking of Garth Turner, did the tories ever back up their slander about breaching confidentiality? Or should we just chalk that one up as yet another CPC fiction-of-convenience?

He broke confidentiality, don't know what the media is still reporting. Garth Turner seems to have a penchant for fabricating stories:

NEWS RELEASE

Nov27, 2006

Dr Charles McVety said Garth Turner "fabricated" the “quote” for CP story.

Canada Family Action Coalition president and Senior Director of Defend Marriage Coalition, Dr. Charles McVety is calling a quote attributed to him by MP Garth Turner "a figment of his imagination."

The alleged statement, reported in a Canadian Press story November 26, was supposed to have been made during a televised debate between McVety and Turner. ( Host of the TV show Michael Coren says he has no recollection of that statement being made either.) According to the CP story, Turner related that McVety looked at him and said “You know what? I can pick up the phone and call Harper and I can get him in two minutes. It’s going to take you a month.” http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home

"I never made this statement" said McVety. "It's a complete fabrication by Mr. Turner from start to finish. It's really quite sad."

McVety also expressed surprise that a respected journalist and news service would see fit to publish quotes attributed to him without verifying their authenticity.

"I've been interviewed by John Ward before as well as many of his colleagues at Canadian Press so they must have my cell phone number somewhere," said McVety. "It is unprofessional for a journalist to not have interviewed me before reporting Mr. Turner's yarn as fact. It seems a bit incautious.”

So much for the media factually reporting.

Dobbin,

Being a member of the natural governing party, you just don't get it.

You probably can't beleive it.

You just don't get it.

Dion has a party to run. He can't have someone he doesn't trust.

How ironic that most of us won't vote Liberal because they can't be trusted.

Actually, it was a Liberal argument before the Republicans started using it.

Well, now you have two Liberals in the caucus. You can show just how true that is by not voting for them next election. Afterall, they can't trusted.

Then that would seem to make it a rather universal argument, would it not?

Khan, a provincial Conservative and a federal Liberal? Or did he run as a Liberal because the Liberals have traditionally won that riding and he knew he couldn't get elected as a Conservative, knowing full well that he could swap parties and, in fact, that is why he offered his services to Harper to start with.

Could be just as easily as any other scenario.

I'm not really surprised by the defection, however Khan it seems was forced out by Dion's hand.

People who say they are more Canadian becuase they vote for a certain party and complete idiot's. I have served with people who belonged to different political parties, and I think they are equal as Canadian's. Once again it's a stupid argument which shouldn't be used by any political party.

So much for not doing things differently.

It would be physically impossible for a Government to do things 100% differently from its predecessor, by definition. So try and make some sense in your posts...

The environment is not a CBC ploy as has been suggested on this forum; it is a genuine concern that the world's weather is changing and affecting every one of us. Do you not think poor people see this?

Come on Fortunata. Who has made that *suggestion*?

When you look at things beyond recycling. Look at making homes energry efficient or driving hybrid vehicles.

Those are the type of things out of reach of the poorer family.

Your fellow conservative MikeDavid has made that suggestion over and over.

Let's look beyond recycling. Poor families don't own houses and poor families don't drive cars. When they can afford either, yes, they are poorer quality, however, that doesn't mean that they are not interested in their children and grandchildren having a quality of life made better by a clean environment. Most people (or at least many people) aren't so intent on self that they are at least not aware of what is going on around them or wanting something better whether or not they can actively participate at the present time.

By the way, I am not poor and I don't own a hybrid vehicle. Do you? How many people do you know own these?

I don't own a vehicle by choice. l could afford one, but I'm much happier living walking distance to my office, using cabs or renting a car when I really need one and saving the money for other things (like a down payment on a condo in this crazy city).
