And we've seen out you deal with your difficulties in the U.S.: You have a civil war.

We now have one nation. The Civil War was, in a sense, the crucible that made us a nation.

You have at least two, and, with multiculturalism enshrined in the Charter, possibly hundreds.

Fedral law says we're a bilingual country, last I heard Quebec was still in Canada. Where are the Anglo rights in Quebec,Canada?

The Federal government only covers federal services. It means that English speakers will get service in English for federal services. It also ensures that products will have English on them.

It doesn't regulate education which is a provincial responsibility. It doesn't have control over local signage which is a municipal and provincial responsibility.

If French is forces down someone's throat, it isn't the federal government that is doing so in Quebec.

Of no help finding a bathroom in the Montreal Convention Center, unless a near-arrest when I stumbed into the anteroom to the Gomery hearings (marked only in French) in March 2005, when I visited the CPC Policy convention, counts.

Maybe so. But we've also had peace and prosperity throughout.

And with a Federal minority government projected to run this country into eternity, nothing will ever get done except a Federal election occurring every year to juggle the top team. Quebec must leave for thier own good and for the good of the rest of Canada.

The Montreal Convention Center is not a federal facility. And when I look for washroom, I look for the pictograph. In Canada, it is the one that doesn't have a skirt on it. America should look into that. I think Canada invented it. ;)

Or could we could have a civil war. Use the American example and kill for what you believe in. Don't be a surrender monkey.

Civil war.....don't be stupid,Dobbin.

Just facing reality,no war required(that was already tried)

Here's the divorce papers, now let's settle for the assets.

Quebec goes their way and the rest of us go ours.

It won't be that easy and you know it. If Canada is divisible, so is Quebec.

Aboriginals may seek to stay in Canada. And why not? Northern Quebec is a fairly new addition to the province. Likewise, some Quebecers have in their head that Labrador belongs to them. Ever check out a Quebec map? It includes Labrador.

No, I don't think it necessarily ends in divorce. Quebec police move into to a reserve, shooting starts, fighting begins. That's one scenario.

Another is that English citizens and businesses get attacked in Montreal, fighting begins.

We are stupid to think that it can't possibly end in violence.

What if your Scottish???

I don't see Quebec leaving anytime soon, lets face it what would they have to gain by leaving. We all live in a civil democracy, and Quebec gets just as much autonomy as any other province.

If you're Scottish, you go to the skirt one. Just no bagpipes.

And I don't see Quebec leaving soon either. People here that ask them to leave are wishful thinkers well.

I doubt that Quebec will separate and I'm certain that Quebec will never seperate.

If you think there is Anti- Anglo sentiment in Quebec now, wait until Quebec actually seperates! I see an unleashing of hatred against anything English, especially if they shoot themselves in the foot by alienating and eventually driving the Anglos and their money out of'' their ''country! Quebec is like a [petulant] teenager who wants his own place but wants Dad to pay for it.

Canada can hardly be said to have never killed for what it believes in.

Canada has not had a civil war unlike the U.S. Britain, France or any other number of nations out there. This idea that it is impossible is what I sarcastically was making a point on.

And given your comments on other posts, I'd have to take your name calling with a grain of salt.

How about the rebellion of 1837, it was a frigian rebellion.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1837_Rebellion

The Rebellions of 1837 were a pair of Canadian armed uprisings that occurred in 1837 and 1838 in response to frustrations in political reform and ethnic conflict. A key shared goal was the allowance of responsible government.

The Papineau Rebellion of 1837.The rebellions occurred in two Canadian colonies:

The Lower Canada Rebellion — a larger and more sustained conflict by French Canadian and English Canadian rebels against the British colonial government

The Upper Canada Rebellion — an abortive uprising in Upper Canada against the ruling clique of the colony, known as the Family Compact.

The rebellion in Lower Canada began first, in November of 1837, and was led by Robert Nelson and Louis-Joseph Papineau. This probably inspired the much shorter rebellion in Upper Canada led by William Lyon Mackenzie in December.

Although both uprisings were eventually crushed, more moderate reformers like the political partners Robert Baldwin and Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine gained more credibility as an alternative voice to the radicals. They proved to be influential when the British government sent Lord Durham to investigate the cause of the troubles. Among the recommendations in his report was the establishment of responsible government for the colonies, which meant that a key objective of the rebellions was achieved because of the incident despite the defeat.

Maybe armed conflict just wasn't for us.

In "Canadian" both are appropriate.

Are you suggesting that Canadians think it's appropriate to spell separate incorrectly?

A great quote on somebody's profile says in order for a plane to fly it needs both a left and right wing. That's 110% true, if all people here are liberal thinkers than we have truly become a society similar to the one portrayed in 1984, the same can be said of any political ideology becoming so dominant that it basically represses differing views and becomes an "absolute" truth.

I agree that a great country is built with Liberal values and that univeristy is built of Liberal art. I would like to be Liberal. I agree with state run daycare and looking after our children.

But you can't confuse Liberalism with dictatorship and democracy.

A liberal OR conservative can dictate and ruin democracy. In our case, the Liberals have done it all for the sake of keeping themselves in power.

Some can argue that Bush used the Iraq war to keep himself in power becuase his first electoin didn't give good results when running against Gore. (too far fetched for me).

I feel that that no matter Liberal or Conservative, us the people should play a role in legislation and we should have full democrocy. Not dictator style politics that isn't in our best interest. Immigration right now is not in our best interest, but we are being dictated that it will continue as we have no say in this matter.

And yest that means reforming the senate and parliment. Also reforming seat imbalance.

We need to fix the system so that regardless of who gets in, they can't have too much power over the people to 'mess' up the country. Do you know what I mean?

Rae when he was premier ruined the province. People lose their homes. Rae created Rae days where civil servants would get an unpaid day off work each week. Thus people lost their homes. There were even death threats against Rae. He paid welfare recipients like a thousand dollars a month which was more than minimum wage or something like that at the time so welfare recipients exploded.

He acted as a dictator basically. If he was a govenor of a state and tried to pull unpaid days off, he would most likely be taken to the state supreme court and be told he couldn't do it because it 'undermines the civil code of blah blah'.

That's the difference i'm getting at. Even Bush himself doesn't have complete power as your seing now. He can only vito bills and act on behalf of the people (as your seeing now).

They mis-spell labor, harbor, defence, neighbor and a host of other words.
