scribblet Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 I'm shocked I say - I'm shocked. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/56456.stm Scientists blame sun for global warming Climate changes such as global warming may be due to changes in the sun rather than to the release of greenhouse gases on Earth. Climatologists and astronomers speaking at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Philadelphia say the present warming may be unusual - but a mini ice age could soon follow. The sun provides all the energy that drives our climate, but it is not the constant star it might seem. Careful studies over the last 20 years show that its overall brightness and energy output increases slightly as sunspot activity rises to the peak of its 11-year cycle. And individual cycles can be more or less active. The sun is currently at its most active for 300 years. That, say scientists in Philadelphia, could be a more significant cause of global warming than the emissions of greenhouse gases that are most often blamed. The researchers point out that much of the half-a-degree rise in global temperature over the last 120 years occurred before 1940 - earlier than the biggest rise in greenhouse gas emissions...................... It hasn't worked with Intelligent Design and it won't work on global warming unless you actually build a strong on it instead of unnamed scientists citing work that hasn't been thoroughly studied. From your own link: "The Sun may have minimally contributed about 10 to 30 percent of the 1980-2002 global surface warming," the researchers said in a statement today." Quote
gerryhatrick Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 I'm shocked too. I'm shocked that anyone would post an 8 year old article and pretend that it's news, or that it hasn't been completely debunked. No lifeline is too short or thin for those who are unable or unwilling to accept the reality of Global Warming due to the overwhelming nature of it and the fear it causes in them. Maybe you could post the proof of man made global warming while you're at it, and tell the class why there has been no increase in global temperature since 1998. Quote

Looking truthfully at a source for information, and identifying when the source is a bought and paid for liar? Yeah, I guess it is. You are the one who chose to make Bob Carter your expert. kimmy Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 Why does he keep posting that same graph as if it means anything? What's "UAH"? What's "MSU"? How can you visually interpret that graph without applying some sort of averaging? It's impossible to determine any temperature trend in its current form. I went to the Columbia icefield a couple of years ago with my dad, who remembers what that glacier was like in the 1970s. His reaction is all the evidence I need to know that climate change is taking place here in Alberta. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
