Since 1991, Communism, the Soviet Union. leftists, socialists and their crazy ideology are no longer a threat to the world - except among academics/municipal elections in the West.

In these 2020s, we now live in a world similar to 1815. Or 1945. Or how Nixon/Kissinger did things.

The population of Greenland is some 60,000. Baffin Island, 13,000.

I would offer $1 to each resident. Cost? $73,000.

Trump?

He'll offer $100,000 to each resident.

Cost to American taxpayers? $7.3 billion

Proxy war,  post WWII demonstrated a degree of finesse - deniability.

Soft power?

Agree, Trump demonstrates none of that....

1815 as you know resulted in significant changes to Europe.

After 1815, for 100 years, Europe (the world) had peace for a century.

Kissinger got his PhD on this point.

Until 1914.

........ daresay the World didn't have peace during this period; to name a few

Franco-Prussian war

Crimean War

Russo-Japanese War, (my fav) - WWI taster in terms of technology.

Spanish-American War.

............ what is surprising is the degree of peace that has persisted, post WWII,  Cuban missile crisis notwithstanding (was Kennedy crazy - dumb fk had the World staring  into the abyss?)

This so-called peace was likely due to the policy of MAD and U.S. leadership in NATO.

Some would argue that the collapse of the Soviet Union would not have occurred if NATO had not existed.

All that said, Trump has ripped the facade off the organization (NATO) and his critique of it is valid IMO>

No question the Napoleonic Wars reshaped the borders of Europe and beyond.

Stone, you ignore the revolts of 1848.

In 1989, we defeated ideology; gangsters who want to control the world.

In these 2020s, we must have a similar sit-down as in Vienna in 1815.

How much for Wyoming or Delaware, Alaska, California? Put a price tag on them and then we’ll talk.

Even Nige begs to differ on this:

BREAKING: Reform UK Leader Nigel Farage: “We don’t always agree with the US government, and in this case, we certainly don’t. These tariffs will hurt us. If Greenland is vulnerable to malign influences, then have another look at Diego Garcia.”

I'm sure you would agree that in a moral corrupt World,  the only real and final sin is ignorance or being naive?

Ignorance and being naive are pure oxygen for hacks - look at Congress before, now and forever?

OMG

In an imperfect world it is inexcusable to make matters far worse as Trump wants to do.

............... if there is disappointment with some disgruntled individuals, don't blame Trump and arguably don't blame those that supported him to a 2nd term ............. the Lion's  portion of blame lies with the Left, the DNC machine, the hubris they exhibited - the confidence  and arrogance, the conspiracy in convincing Biden to encore until it  was too late for them and definitely for Harris.

Liberalism was on steroids with Biden - the U.S. was losing it's identity - the Left's reaction? Bupkis!

The most controversial issue of the 2024 General, and the issue that ushered in Trump for a second term (3rd)  was the contentious issue of the southern border.

Harris' statement when challenged if her Administration would change anything?  "nothing'.

Oh, indeed ......... the Left lost and lost huge! Have they learned?

No ........ the Party rump is still running the shop - tail wagging the dog, indeed.

People who voted for him because of inflation weren’t paying attention to global trends after Covid. He promised to bring prices down, not just reduce inflation, once he got into office but that hasn’t happened. Anyway, everybody knew what he was from the first time - entirely concerned about himself and determined to destroy the guardrails all his predecessors respected. That certainly has happened.

I'd argue that people supported Trump because of fear .............. fear of where the Left was taking the country.

They had completely lost their support amongst those where traditionally their support lay.

.................... and they didn't have a leader - Joe was easy pickings ........ Harris,  OMG?

Suppose I'll cut her (Harris) some slack in saying the Party conspiracy was for her to assume the Prez later in Joe's Presidency after he'd resigned.

Has anyone seen Joe lately?? I'd remind all that the election that defeated him was only slightly more that a year ago.

To borrow a phrase, Jan 6th, 'you can't deny what we saw with our own eyes' That phrase adequately describes what they saw in Joe but more importantly, the fear of what they saw in the real power, the power behind a dilapidated old man.

No, ya want to blame anyone for Trump's success, start with the Left.

This is is how nations who respect each other deal with a dispute in Greenland, specifically Hans Island:

Quote

The Whisky War, also known as the Liquor Wars,[1] was an amicable border dispute between the Kingdom of Denmarkand Canada over Hans Island. Between 1973 and 2022, the island was under dispute between the two nations, although never amounting to direct conflict or violence.[2]

Both countries agreed on a process in 2005 to resolve the issue,[3] which was finally settled in 2022, resulting in the creation of a land border on the island between the two states.[4]

Quote

250px-Hans_Island_2003-08-01%2C_HDMS_Triton%2C_Cognac_%26_Danish_Pork.jpg A bottle of cognac and cans of pork and fruit left by Danish forces on Hans Island in 2003

In 1984, Canadian soldiers visited the island and planted a Canadian flag, also leaving a bottle of Canadian whisky.[10] The Danish Minister of Greenland Affairs came to the island himself later the same year with the Danish flag, a bottle of schnapps, and a letter stating "Welcome to the Danish Island" (Velkommen til den danske ø).[11][12][13] The two countries proceeded to take turns planting their flags on the island and exchanging alcoholic beverages.[14] In 2005 a Canadian man and an unknown source on the Danish side also posted advertisements on Google to "promote their claims".[14][15][16]

The minor border dispute was often considered humorous between the two nations, with diplomats displaying good humour.[citation needed] Despite the serious official nature of the matter, the manner in which the conflict was prosecuted was light-hearted, demonstrated by the length of time taken to settle the dispute, if nothing else. The two nations are on friendly terms, and are also founding members of NATO.

He’s a disgusting criminal. There’s no way around his appalling behaviour through life. Republicans had many other options, perfectly normal people with very right-wing views, but they chose the coup guy again and voters went the same way after all the dreadful things they know he had done. Anybody who voted for him should take some personal responsibility and stop blaming other people for their reprehensible choice, freely made.

Stone,

After 1815, for a century, Europeans created so much - they had such cities.

And then, they wrecked it all in the summer of 1914. Why?

The pundits have identified several reasons for the conflict.

My fav was an arms race and the glorification of military power. I’m sure that you’ve heard the term, ‘war is diplomacy by other means”? Well, leading up to WWI it was accepted as an alternative to yak-yak.

Alliances between Nations were definitely a contributing factor – Germany in particular (post Franco-Prussian War) was incredibly concerned about being ‘boxed’ in by Russia and France. France of course had a bone to pick with the Prussians (Germany - Alsace Lorraine).

What fueled the Arms Race was imperialism – let’s just say colonies abroad and the need to protect them.

Lastly was Nationalism – the Balkans in particular and the desire for independence amongst ethnic groups.  Of course that is where the pretext for WWI began with the assassination of the heir to Austria-Hungary. Russia backed Serbia and Germany backed Austria-Hungary. Germany attacked France thru Belgium which brought in GB.

Make no mistake, the involved countries  particularly the Continental countries, thirsted for the conflict. Of course they didn't realize that it would be 'total war'  a war where modern weapon technology combined with 19th century conflict strategy would result in incredible losses - mind boggling.

It is said that the BEF were lions led by donkeys - I would concur with that description.

Hope is not a strategy.

The surest strategy to ensure global stability is to make the juice not worth the squeeze.

Ironic that the Cold War - Post WWII was instrumental in maintaining Global peace.
