Good clarification:

A committee has been appointed to work out the modalities of implementation. Many ideas are being discussed with regard to implementation, including special markers, known as zonnars, for followers of Judaism, Christianity and Zoroastrianism, the only faiths other than Islam that are recognized as such. The zonnar was in use throughout the Muslim world until the early 20th century and marked out the dhimmis, or protected religious minorities.

For myself, I'm inclined to suspect that the legislation is better understood as part of dhimmitude, or the dealing with religious minorities within an Islamic republic. One can understand how legislated dress codes would be necessary for Christians who may not feel otherwise restricted. It may also be necessary to explicitly identify religious minorities in some anonymous urban settings.

Reading comments on this topic, I have the impression posters have little or no knowledge of what a traditional society is like, much less one that is in thrall to Islamic fundamentalism.

Incidentally, I just learned that a zonar is a belt.

So, the guy who wrote the false article stands by it....and that means he retains some credibility?

What a pathetic joke.

It's over. If you want to bang a war drum do it with truth, not lies.

-snip-

So that's all right then? We can all relax? Hardly.

Whether or not President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Islamist regime are yet publicly marking out their non-Muslim second-class citizens is not the point. Iran has moved much further already. It is deep into a relentless campaign to delegitimize Jews and other infidels everywhere. It has leapt over a first step of denigrating its own minorities to the second step of denigrating them the world over.

In Ahmadinejad's world view, and in his vicious daily rhetoric, Israel has no right to exist, and will be wiped out, because the Jews have no right to a country of their own. And if a world without the United States seems unrealistic now, then it is a dream, he tells his followers, that must not be abandoned....................

Not to mention that Iran has just tested a long range missile

From Gerry's link: "A copy of the draft law obtained by the Associated Press..."

The Associated Press. The ones who reported that Bush supporters booed Clinton's name at a Bush rally when Bush wished Bill Clinton well in his then upcoming heart surgery. As we all heard, that is if you have the Fox News Channel - who were at the rally, there was no booing on the audiotape when Bush said that.

Is this why many are trying to discredit Taheri?
