geoffrey Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Still looking for ways to continue growth in energy consumption because people still want population-growth-for-economic-growth is absurd. No form of energy is environmentally sustainable at present population and usage levels. Not even solar or wind. They have environmental problems too. So we need to start either: a ) killing people off B ) living like cavemen Since we don't like either concept, might as well use fossil fuels because they are cheapest and are no worse on the environment than all these other ridiculous concepts. quinton Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 You don't have to live like a caveman to not own and operate a car. But yeah, unless human population growth is stopped, we're all doomed and so is biodiversity of all life on earth. Quote
Spike22 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Excellent initiative and long overdue in this country. PS when the hell are we the average slobs gonna see any benefit of the millions of our tax dollars spent on the domestic oil industry at the pumps? Do we really have to resort to Crisco oil and sh*t to solve our energy woes? Quote
Hicksey Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 In a sense, I agree. Large cities like Toronto have suffered from horrible urban planning. But it also comes from developers not building space concious designs that people can afford. They are building condos like mad in Toronto, but most of them are unaffordable at prices of $750,000 to $2,000,000. So: does teh CPC have an affordable housing strategy? Not a sufficient one I admit. Affordable housing along with education are the only areas I support the NDP on. Kim Campbell - “In many respects, the government needs fewer rules, but rules that are consistently applied.” - Sheila Fraser, Former Auditor General.
geoffrey Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Affordable housing isn't the business of the Federal government. It's a municipal issue. Bring it up with your alderperson/counsellor/reeve/whoever. I would also venture that the government has no business in housing. Those condos are being built because of a demand for $2mil homes. They wouldn't be building if no one was buying. There is only so many housing companies, and they are going to build what they can make their buck on. Building cheap suburban homes isn't worth much in a boom economy... you'll see more of those springing up in a recession or times of high interest rates. The housing market will settle itself out.
