scribblet Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 http://www.canadianally.com/ca/news/index-en.asp This government website is worth a looksee, this is the first I've heard of it, there's a good link on it to the military operations in Afghanistan.. Black Dog Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 What a weird web site. First: if it's Government, why is it a ".com" instead of the government's ".gc.ca"? An dif it's not an official government site, why is it mimicking the GoC format? Something smells about this. Quote
fellowtraveller Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 Here is your answer, from the site: "CanadianAlly.com is an electronic newsletter maintained by the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC, designed specifically for an American audience. The goal of this e-publication is to bring together pertinent defence and security information from a variety of government departments, agencies, military commands and bi-national organizations. The intent is to give American citizens a better sense of the scope of Canada's role in North American and Global Security and the War on Terror. CanadianAlly.com is managed by: Lt.Col Jamie Robertson Counsellor (Military-Media Affairs) Canadian Embassy Washington DC, 20001 (202) 448 6324" Quote The government should do something.
Black Dog Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 That doersn't really answer my question as to why an official government site isn't using the official government of Canada domain. Of course the bigger question is why Canadian tax dollars are funding an propaganda web site. Quote
GreenWhiteandPink Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 The Canadian Embassey is also putting up big posters all over D.C. (airports, rail stations etc.) now too, making the american pol's in Wash D.C. know that Canada is helping in the "war on terror". Quote
politika Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 Neat website. I have not seen it before. It is very informative. Quote

Aren't all sites propaganda, inclduing GOC sites, promoting something or other? Every government department has a large communications staff for that very purpose, which I'm sure you knew. Black Dog Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 Dunno, maybe because they are far away? They are using the usual GOC format for the site. The embassy main site uses ".gc.ca". Aren't all sites propaganda, inclduing GOC sites, promoting something or other? Every government department has a large communications staff for that very purpose, which I'm sure you knew. Of course. But it's interesting to see state propaganda being directed at an external audience. Quote
geoffrey Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 BD has a valid point. I can't find any other government websites that don't use .gc.ca. Why is this different? Why are we funding a 'love us' operation in the US? I'll protest this from a conservative perspective, seems like a big waste of my money when they don't care anyways. geoffrey Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 It's still ridiculous that our government is wasting tax dollars trying to convince American's that we are against terrorism too. Big waste of our moola. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --
