I am Groot Posted September 21, 2024 Report Posted September 21, 2024 Well, some of the reason can likely be found in a letter between COSTI - an immigrant services organization that is largely funded by the government, and another immigration representative regarding newly arrived refugees. The letter details the cash they can expect now that they're in Canada. Their client, COSTI says, will get a $1900 allowance to supplement whatever income they can earn (up to $1000 a month) plus another $500 to assist with their housing costs, and another $1800 child benefit cheque. They'll also get an $8300 start-up allowance to buy clothes, furniture and utensils. https://x.com/Tablesalt13/status/1837245927960223835/photo/1 The federal government has also doubled its annual spending on refugees and immigrants services to $5.2B. This doesn't count what the provinces have to spend in terms of social welfare, public housing etc. https://x.com/Tablesalt13/status/1837251467171819845/photo/1 Quote

CdnFox Posted September 22, 2024 Report Posted September 22, 2024 As I understand it the main reason is it's much easier to get to there Final Destination countries if they are doing so from Canada. And it's easier to get into Canada. So Canada becomes a stepping stone. They come here, they get to live for free, they get dental and eyewear, and then once they've used that up it's easier to springboard to their final country now that they are "A resident of Canada" Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data
