GostHacked Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 http://temagami.carleton.ca/jmc/cnews/13022004/n1.shtml http://www.canadiandemocraticmovement.ca/d...article352.html How many of you knew this? I just found about this today. I feel really damn stupid for not paying attention to this kind of thing. How did this affect us? Is Lockheed Martin still in charge of doing the census? I have been trying to find more up to date information on this but I am having a hard time. Quote
Cameron Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 I have Lockheed Martin stock, and they are in my gold book. I love them. Drop away LM! The company, whose Canadian headquarters is in Ottawa, won the contract to provide new computer systems for the 2006 census. Oh my God, head for the hills!!! The Lockheed Martin software and hardware can be used to scan data on census forms directly into the Statistics Canada computers. This will speed up the process of evaluating the information gathered by census takers across Canada. Ah, there is the reason the left doesn't like it, efficiency. "We never forget who we're working for." Gravy!!! Quote Economic Left/Right: 3.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.26 I want to earn money and keep the majority of it.

Cameron Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 I'm sorry, I'm going to reply. Susan Thompson, founder of the left-wing activist website Vive le Canada, says giving Lockheed Martin the census work is an issue of privacy and ethics."Canada took an official stand that they did not support the war in Iraq," says Thompson. "But now they have turned around and supported a company that profited from the war." Gimme a break. There was a bid put out by StatCan and Lockheed Won it, simple. It's just another ploy by left-wing Canada to bitch about America. What does Canada not taking part in Iraq have to do with Lockheed and software for a census??? They have been around for 60+ years making military equipment as well as civilian equipment. This is people with too much time on their hands and a bone to pick with America because they are not planting flower gardens in Iraq and Afghanistan. geoffrey Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 This sounds more ridiculous than the ports problem in the states. Who cares? They obviously have the best services to win the contract, let them do it. It's a census. Would you rather have Dubai Census World do it? Who knows, who cares? It's a big non-issue in my books. Plus I too own shares in the company Cameron. Stocked up on them just before Bush was elected right before the split, made a few bucks... High Five, Geoff! Oh ya! Further on topic, Lockheed Martin is actually suprisingly involved in the data management industry, they are probably one of the most, if not the most, qualified company for this job. Big scary company, that can do things so much better and more securely than we have in the past. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --
Cameron Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Agree Geoff. Everyone tries to make it out that there is some big conspiracy out there with these companies to take over the world. I would love to take a look into communist and socialist countries and see what they are up to. I bet they are as transparent as mud....or for a better example, black, poisonous tar. All this article is trying to do is encourage protectionism. If this Mrs. Thompson had her way, the gov't would hire hundreds of people to do the counting rather than a computer. uOttawaMan Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 I really fail to see how making the census more cost effective and efficient is a bad thing. Surely we have more pressing matters to hurl our impotent rage at. Edit: K Wow, the longer i spend on the forum, the more and more right-wing I start to sound. Damn you people are convincing.. or are subliminally manipulating me..
