This is pretty old news but it has been recently brough up again with the new government: http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/20...ckay060221.html

Their is no word on whether the hostages are alive or not but a tape did arise not that long ago saying they were. What do you think the new Harper government will do to get these hostages back? Whether we play the waiting game as the Liberals did, negotiate or take action.

I believe Canada was one of the countries that agreed to never negoiate with hostages. I see no reason why that would be any different now then it was back then.

We shouldn't negotiate with terrorists. People that enter warzones willingly accept the risks involved and they should understand that patronizing terrorism won't be allowed in the free world.

Rescue is all we can do... actually, all the Americans can do for us!

Waiting game with the Liberals? :(

Oh, you mean do nothing until the UK or US step in?

Don't be so quick to dismiss our ability to get hostages out. Canada's special-operations troops are the second-best trained unit in the world, bowing only to the UK's SAS.

They're all in Afghanistan and it would be political suicide to send troops to Iraq, even if it was for a perfectly good reason. The bleeding hearts would be all over it.

One we don;t know where the hell they are. Two we have no air assets of our own there and aren't even deployed in Iraq (AKA one of the 12 a**hole nations on the planet) and yes out boys are well trained. As who is best who knows most of these spec op units are very highly trained in all countries of the world. Maybe they could participate in reality TV show "Battle of the Special Ops".

Peter Mackay needs to take some dealing-with-political-terrorists lessons (maybe a few episodes of 24 will do) and learn never to claim hostages are safe until they're released. Now the terrorists will think he'll do anything to save face.

Well since we arnt in Iraq that would be the plan. But they are already their with histages of their own what the hell are they doing about it? Same thing as we are, nothing.

By the was I agree with not negotiating with terrorists, we would just be giving in to a weakness.
