August1991 Posted June 14, 2024 Report Posted June 14, 2024 1. This place on the river in front of the Governor General's place cannot be changed. It is a short drive to the parliament. 2. Demolish the building. It has no historical significance. In the snow, I have walked around Trudeau's infamous swimming pool. 3. I have never been to the house of the Australian PM. Years ago, I walked by 10 Downing Street. 4. I have stood in front of Argentina's Pink House. ===== I reckon that we need a place (without asbestos, but with a cat) near our head of state. 1 Quote
ExFlyer Posted June 14, 2024 Report Posted June 14, 2024 I have lived in Ottawa many decades and this debate has been going on for even longer than that. We all know that doing a renovation costs way more than building new. It will pretty well have to be demolished to fix all the issues that are with the residence now. So, the extra steps of knocking down the external walls would not be a big step. Actually, I think that half way through any renovation, it will be determined that it needs demolishing anyway. Personally I think the building needs to be demolished from the beginning and a new one built. The problem, with that is it will be a government project and will take longer than buying aircraft or ships to get done LOL The other problem is those old folks that have some sort of emotional attachment to a decaying building. Every city has them and they are a pain in the ass as they do not have to pay for anything they want. 1 Quote It can be dangerous to believe things just because you want them to be true. - Sagan
