Tories (43%) Hold a Steady 19-Point Lead over Liberals (24%), Just 17% of Canadians Give the Latest Federal Budget Two Thumbs Up

If Justin Trudeau was hoping that this budget would give him a bump in the poles, he has utterly failed. If anything the tories have picked up some ground and are pulling at an all-time high. Meanwhile it's pretty obvious that the majority of Canadians who are paying attention hate the budget.

A huge percent in the latest poll said they would never vote liberal: When asked which party they would never consider voting for in the next election, almost a third said Liberals (32%). That is a very large hunk of the population who is effectively completely lost to you as a party. Usually you see it around somewhere like 25%. Obviously for every party there's going to be a certain percentage of people who will never vote for you, but the liberals have turned off so many people that it becomes exceptionally hard to win.

I think that Justin has been facing a lot of pressure to either get the poll numbers up or either step down or call an election before things get worse. I think he thought this budget would give him a bump and maybe they could go to the polls based on that. But he has severely misread the room. And he is quickly running out of road. I suspect this puts an end to the idea of a spring election, which means he's got a fall election or next spring and then that's it, it gets decided for him.
