Wilber Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 So then, assuming Canada elected an English-only PM who didn't speak French, you'd be OK with Quebec leaving the country? After all, at that point, being told the country isn't officially bilingual and even being overruled on the constitution, it would be pretty clear that Quebec's place in the existing federation isn't really a concern. Quebec is the only province that doesn't have to offer bilingual service in many areas. If they want French only, then Alberta should be able to go English only. Or wherever your from outside of Quebec and New Brunswick. In what areas does Alberta or any other province have to provide services in French? I'm not aware of any in BC. If you request it, the government must provide its services in either english or french. That's why the voter cards are in both languages, saves them some paper/time. Quebec seems to be able to get around this by bitching and whining and passing their sign laws. I'd be interested to see if they'd actually leave or if it's just idle threats. If they were to leave they'd be pretty much pooched. No military, no coastal access to speak of, no currency, etc etc. I read in the news they wanted to use the US dollar and Bush suggested a place that they could go. Quote
Bro Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 If it's in the liberal charter,we must respect it.Has anyone bothered to check? Quote
