Actually this is the first campaign where I'm not complaining about CBC interference.

If anyone here watched the 'Your Turn' segements, you would have seen that Martin got the roughest ride, and Harper pretty much had no questions that were too difficult. I was expecting some abortion, same-sex marriage, or even American influence questions... none. It was all accountability and tax reform, the topics that conservatives do best on. Maybe this helps the Mansbridge/Harper friendship theory.

Kudos for acknowledging that Geoffrey. I noticed that also. Martin got roasted.

I also noticed that the amazing news that Harper was cutting off media questions 2 days before the election...followed by the reversal of the decision after it was reported got NO coverage on the CBC.

It was news, especially given the Harper platform of accountability and transparancy.

I think the CBC has been beat up by rightwingers and is running scared.

Would you like to explain how CBC is right-wing? In this election, they were pretty fair and balanced, if only because right-wingers complained in the past and they didn't want to lose money under the possibility of an inevitable CPC government...

How about refuting the various claims on this thread for them being left-wing...

Not really, because I didn't say that. Please read more carefully.

I always believed the CBC was centrist. They've been unfairly critisized for many years by rightwing activists.

Take "Hannity and Colmes." Hannity is far right-wing and Colmes is centre-left. That makes the show right-leaning, not centrist like Fox News claims.

Colmes is centre-left?

Wow.

I thought one had to breathe in order to take political positions? ;)

Well to be fair YankAbroad that comment was based on what I have read...

We don't get Fox News here in Canada with a basic cable package... :)

tml,

There is a lot I just don't get. For example, I don't understand what YankAbroad means by Colmes not breathing....

I probably *missed* the joke as would most people on this site.

I don't watch FOX "News" very often, but the few times I've seen that show, I expected Hannity to more-or-less make Colmes lick his boots.

You guys get Fox News there in London??? :(

So how free is Canada...

Colmes is known for being very quiet while Hannity screams and yells and takes control of the show.

That is how I interpreted it...

I just listened to part of Michael Enright's CBC radio programme this morning and I thought of Mulroney's remark. Harper is going to have a very tough time.

You're kidding, right? Harper has been given a free ride by the media this campaign. What makes you think thats going to change if the Conservatives form the government?

Michael Enright is an outright disgrace. His vicious, wild tirades against America in particular are repugnant in the extreme.

This thread is illustrative of the problem with CBC. The apprehension of bias is universal, unanimous.

And completely unacceptable in a public broadcaster, paid for with taxpayer money.

Really, the only solution is to pull the pin, and allow the many fiercely loyal CBC supporters - who seem to vastly outnumber the actual watchers and listeners - to pay for the service directly themselves. They can then broadcast anythng they wish. Problem solved.

The government should do something.

Yes, FOX News is broadcast here.

But don't rejoice just yet -- the UK OfCom (Office of Communications) regularly fines them for being biased.

Now of course they're biased. And I think they have a right to be.

What's laughable is when the BBC claims it's not biased and then runs documentaries on the "Israel-Palestine conflict" which were filmed by members of "Israeli Out of Palestine." And let's not forget the BBC is supported by tax dollars AND TV licence dollars -- you cannot refuse to view it or buy it (unlike FOX).

*sighs*

I wish there was a truly free country. I'd move there in a heartbeat. :P

You got it. And when Hannity gets mad, he starts to jiggle like slightly ripe jell-o. It's scary.

Sure, no prob.

And on top of that, I can tell you that I recall hearing ALL the latest juicy tidbits and opposition outrage on CBC news every morning as the Gomery commision was at work and then after the inquiry came out. No hint of sadness from those reading the news either.
