August1991 Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Whatever the final outcome, Martin is irreparably damaged. Even if Liberals snatch victory from defeat a second consecutive time, a party that now understands the importance of renewal won't fight another campaign with this leader. Toronto StarIn Toronto, who speaks best for "progressive" English Canada? The Liberals used to present themselves as pragmatic but if the Toronto Star says that Martin is damaged goods, then clearly the Liberals are not competent. I suspect that many central Canadians consider themselves "progressive" so they can't vote for Harper but they think the NDP is too radical. They are willing to accept that the Liberals are "corrupt" because well, that's politics. But they now hear that Martin and his Liberal Party, this time, are incompetent. Who will these people vote for? Quote

Who will these people vote for? The Toronto Star has long been an apologist for Martin and his party and they're running and hiding from Martin. That is telling. Progressive is too broadly interpreted these days. To me it is a little left of small 'l' liberal but not quite small 's' socialist like the NDP. They will likely migrate to the NDP and tonight's numbers reflect that with a 3% jump by the NDP nationally. Considering the inferior product, do you really expect the service to be any better? The likelihood of the supplier standing behind that product is zero. And getting back to the subject at hand, the Toronto Star seems to agree. Quote "If in passing, you never encounter anything that offends you, you are not living in a free society." - Rt. Hon.
