https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/conservative-jamil-jivani-wins-durham-seat-by-largest-margin-in-20-years

Jivani’s success comes as the Tories continue to surge in polls ahead of the governing Liberal party, and as Conservatives push a message that promises to “axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget and stop the crime.”

He didn't just win - he slaughtered them with more than 50 percent of the vote. The libs got something like 25 percent and the dips basically collapsed.

Voter turn out was low (always is in byelections) and the cpc was expected to win - aothough the liberals had claimed that they were sure it would be a tight race.

But still - the libs really didn't show up to vote and the information available is that ndp voters went to the cpc rather than the libs.

I've talked about how the conditions are right for this to happen federally in the next election - where disenchanted lib voters who can't bring themselves to vote cpc stay home,k and the ndp voters (especially the kids) decide they're going to give the conservatives a try.

If this plays out next election the same way, we could see a massive collapse of the libs and dips, similar to what ontario saw in their last election and similar to what the PC saw under Kim Campbell federally.

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

We lived in Whitby when Flaherty held the seat. Both Jim and Christine were good friends of ours.
