August1991 Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 From Paul Wells: Pour motiver sa décision, Jean-Guy Boily a déclaré que la région ne doit pas rater la chance d'avoir un ministre à Ottawa. Radio-CanadaThis is the Saguenay which is probably the most unilingual French region of Quebec, and the region of Lucien Bouchard. Don't be fooled by the family name (Blackburn), it's rather common in Quebec. Blackburn was an MP under Mulroney. I think this story will have an effect both in Quebec and in English-Canada. NDLR: I have never seen a weirder election campaign. Quote
shoop Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 I spent the fall school term in the region, not in the riding though. I was struck at how separatist the region was. This means bad, bad news for the Liberal Party of Canada in Quebec. Quote

This means bad, bad news for the Liberal Party of Canada in Quebec. I have been near there and it is pretty separatist (although I think the provincial Liberals hold the seat there). There is a school around there where anglophones can go for French Language instruction. Anyway, not to get off topic canada.com said that the Bloc won the riding by 11,000 votes in the last election so it will be tough for the CPC to make big gains.
